Resolved Installing freeze plug

is it possible to install freeze plug while the engine in the engine bay? one of the rear freeze plug came off. I don't feel like pulling the engine off. anybody tried this before?

The amount of force you need to get one in there, and the fact that it has to be installed straight and cannot be crooked... no, I'd say not. They can be a complete pain in the ass even with it just on an engine stand, nevermind having only about 1" of room to whack it.

If you try it, get a brass freeze plug, in the mid deepth.

Brass is a tad bit softer and knocks in a bit eaiser.

35mm is the size on all the 6 bolt blocks

On the 7 bolt, most are 35mm and 2 40mm

There are those rubber freeze plugs that screw in too. I've used them once or twice when in a pinch. I picked one up at my local auto parts store.

You could always freeze the plug for a an hour or so before trying to install. However, try to be as quick as possible while installing. I would give that a shot. If its an easy enough spot to get to. Depending on the location of the plug that needs to be replaced, you might need to remove some things to get a good access point to it.
