Installing an Electric Water Temp. Gauge

Got a new electric water temp gauge. It has one wire for the sensor. Should I run that wire out to the temp sending unit or is there somewhere off the ECU that I can tap into or maybe in the cluster itself? That would make it alot easier and cleaner to tap somewhere inside. Thanks for any help

With an electric water temp gauge, youre sposed to use/buy a temperature sending unit. A lot of people drill their thermostats and thread the sending unit in. They you just run a wire from the sending unit to the guage. Ground another wire (from the gauge) and then run a 12v power source to it.

Thats pretty much it.

ill assume you have autometer since you didnt say.

just run the one wire from the sending unit that was included to the gauge. no need to do anything with the ecu or whatnot.

i simply tapped my thermostat housing for the sending unit.

Na, It's a ractive gauge..... The only thing is there is no sending unit with the gauge. It just has 3 wires, Red - Power, Black - Ground, and a Green wire.... Do I need to buy a sending unit or does the green wire just hook into something else?

the green wire probably just wires to your stock water temp sending unit. dunno bout 2g but on a 1g the sending unit is on the thermostat housing, with 1 wire going to it

i would assume the same thing.

no telling how accurate the stock sending unit is.... just get an autometer for 40 bucks and it includes the sending unit and everything needed.

Thanks for the help guys, I went to there web page and it shows it with a sending unit..... I guess that's what I get for buying it off of somebody... Does anybody know if you can buy just the sending unit or if you can hook it up to your stock sending unit? If not, then i guess it goes in the scrap pile,

im sure u can use your stock sendingunit. the stock 1 looks much like any aftermarket 1.

if youre using the stock unit, then you might as well be looking at the gauge in the cluster.
