I have a '90 AWD Talon and I think I'll be putting on a Holset HX-35 turbo. I've been reading lots of threads and I am lost. Some people are feeding oil to their turbos through the head and many through the oil filter mounting thing. How do you reccomend I do it? The block is stock with balance shafts and such from a '91 and the head has been freshly rebuilt and shaved off underneath. The head is from a '90.

Feed from the filter housing with a .078" (5/64") restrictor. You can buy a restrictor for a ball bearing turbo and drill it out easily if you cannot track down the proper-size restrictor.

With the balance shafts still installed there's a chance the oil pressure at the head may not be enough at idle and cruising speeds to keep the turbine shaft floating.

...and don't forget the importance of the drain, too!

another thing. how much work is it to make the intake and exhaust pipes work on the Holset? I haven't actually removed my 14b yet and I'm quite positive that the Holset will have much larger intake and exhaust pipe fittings.

Let's back up here....you're planning on installing a HX35 on an otherwise-stock 1G? Why not try something a little more worthy of your stock intercooler and such; like a Small 16G. You can't argue with 36-38lb/min of airflow and 14B-like spool while remaining a direct bolt-on turbo using all of your existing oil and coolant lines.

so you think a HX-35 would overload my stock intercooler? what kind of small 16g should I get? I'm not that familiar with all the code names for turbos. Also, I'm guessing a small 16g won't match up to my T3/T4 tubular headers, will it?

There is no such thing as a header on a turbocharged DSM, its an exhaust manifold. You can use the stock exhaust manifold on a 14b which is your stock turbo AND a small 16g, any MHI flanged turbo will work. an HX35 is a pretty big turbo and will DESTROY your stock intercooler, let alone some front mounts. Please check the upgrade path and make sure you have the right fuel mods, tuning mods, etc to ensure you dont destroy your car by just throwing on a new turbo and turning up the boost.

alrighty thanks for the advice!
