I took my k-member with steering rack completely out of the car.

I installed the urethane sub strut kit and urethane sway bar bushings into the K-member.

Reinstalled the K-member putting the spline into the coupler.

Torqued down the K-member and reinstalled bolt into coupler. Tested steering (while in air) and it seemed fine.

Reattaced the rack to the wheel and then turned and it would not turn wheels and heard rubbing in the rack.

Noticed that the flat spot was at the edge of the coupler and not next to the bolt.

HOW the heck do I get the steering rack to move up a 1/2 inch or the steering coupler to move down. Do I need to remove the K-member again?

TECH BOOK IS COMPLETELY SILENT ON THIS. ARRRG.

What is the answer to this delemma?:banghead:

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get the coupler back over? I am removing the k-member and it slips the rest of the way off, but the reverse will not let me get the rack splines deeper into the coupler.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ASAP

SOLVED

Put the k-member on and bolt up loosely putting the coupler over the spline

Shake the k-member corner up and down while pulling the coupler down with your hand until it slides in slightly engaging the splines.

Jack the rack up against the body while holding the coupler to ensure no movement

put a light next to the coupler and pull back the rubber boot.

pull back the rubber boot.

Grab a 3 foot bar or pipe. I used a ball joint tool.

Put the tool on the edge of the coupler at the u-joint while watching the end where the rack meets the coupler.

Pound it until the coupler is flush with the rack so no splines show, bolt down the retaining bolt.
