With everything hooked up and ready to start. I get in and turn the key, everything works but when I hit the brake all power goes out, same with when I try and start the car. All dash lights just cut out and slowly come back. What is that?

Could a starter be wired incorrectly? I was just wondering because it seemed very simple 1 wire hook up. Maybe that's the problem.

ECU should be fine because it worked fine even when the alternator was shorted, I just left the charging wire off and the car would turn the starter over just fine.

Is it possible that I don't have the grounds right? Can anyone tell me where all the grounds are specifically supposed to go? I think the one from battery negative to starter bolt is wrong.

Thank you!

There should be 2 wires to the starter. One bolts on, the other clip;s to the metal clip coming off the solonoid.

Did you rewire anything or maybe had the starter dangling by the wires when the engine was out and a connection came loose?

The clip wire going to the starter solenoid is broken and coming off, I tried fixing the clip by crushing it a little to get it to hold but is there a better way to rewire it?

I have narrowed it down to the starter only. I pulled the starter out and ungrounded it and the car primed the fuel pump and everything, just obviously didn't have a starter to start. I have an extra good starter lying around so I will try that one tonight after work.

Thanks again!

cut it off, strip just the end and put a new connector on and you should be good to go.:thumb:

I agree but remember soldering is always better than crimping, crimps will come off durring vibration, solder it if u have the means to.

Was the paint on the ground terminal I bought. I wasn't getting a good ground at all. That's what the weird short with the lights was. Thanks everyone!
