Installed Shifter...now I Have Crazy Side To Side Play...

OK. So i just put in my new short throw shifter. Everything bolts up and came together really easily. I put the shift knob back on and i have an insane amount of side to side play. I can put the car in 1st and it looks like its in 3rd. I didnt do nothin wrong during the install. Can anyone help me with this problem?. Is there a way to fix it?..

--Now i read this article..shifter wobles from side to side, whats wrong.... But i have no clue what bushing they are talking about... Anyone have any pictures that can help me? PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

u hooked something up wrong..i had the same problem. i dont really recall what exactly it was, but it was some sort of spring type thing...its not on right...


i know thats sort of useless to say, but someone else should know what im talking about and explain more...

There is a coil spring on the rear side of the shifter block, you didnt put that on right. take it apart and put teh spring on correct (meaning open it up and place it back on)

Do you have the haynes repair manual? It shows you hot to center the shifter, better than the Vfaq in my opnion

I have this same problem. I put the spring back on like it's suppose to, the arm on it looks like it just doesn't reach like it's suppsed to. I need help too!!!

chilton manual.... also taking pictures of where things go before you tear them apart is so worth it!!!
