Hi,
Just wanted to know if anyone has any tips for removing and installing the inner balance shaft bearing. I got the timing belt side one out, but am having trouble with the tranny side one. I tried searching (might have missed what Im looking for as I was skimming through pages) but have had no luck finding such a thread. The engine is still in the car (I cut the shaft in half to clear the frame).

And just to be 100% on this, I want to install the bearings with the oil holes blocked? (99.9% sure this is correct, but just for confirmation).

Thank You very much!

I used a big socket that was almost the same diameter as the bearing to push it out and install the new one. I also had it on a long extension 1/2" extension maybe 14"s or so.

And yes you want to block the holes when your installing the new bearings.

Okay, Was thinking the same thing as vision, but wanted to see if anyone else had some good ideas. And point the oiling holes away from the crank on both?

Well, tried punching the new bearing in, but it came apart at the connection its got on it. Should I pick up a bunch of them and keep trying? Or is there a trick to getting them in as well?

Thanks again for all the help!

Or actually, could I leave the inner bearing out and just plug the timing belt side one? Or would it have too much an effect on my oil pressure?

You just have to try and get the bearing to be as straight as possible when inserting it. If its on a slight angle it will catch and get destroyed. This happened on my first attempt so I just reused the bearing I took out for the second try.
