Car is starting to spin through 1st gear still on 10psi... its kind of crazy. It spun when it was "fog wet" outside the other night and it spun on me today from a hard launch. Im getting my driving down a little better so maybe I can hit a 13.5 with 100 octane and more timing.
My friend has the intake for me! Score! I gotta come up with some money for it though so i can get it along with a new filter and the HDR parts to make the 90* bend. Anybody have one of those 2gmas to 3" or 4" filter adapter thing that bolts on to the filter side of the maf? PM me if its for sale.

The weather today at 6 said rain on wednesday so we'll have to wait and see if the races are going to happen or not.

break that sucker in, and get it running right (no codes) then bring it out to the track for a baseline run. It will be nice to see how much you can improve tuning with dsmlink and a studderbox and all the goodies that come with it.

Yeah I'm trying to haha. I only have about 400 as of today. I'm going to drive back to Vallejo on Thurs night so I can change my oil again along with the transmission fluid. Also I'm going to adjust the clutch height and see if I can find my old tb elbow so I can fix my piping issue.

I'm def gonna go DSMLink now that I have that CEL. It'll be worth it in the end, but I need to find a spare EPROM cause I can't afford another week or so without my car again.

Hmmm weather is saying rain tomorrow in sonoma ca. Lets pray that it doesnt really rain. If it does, its ok, it gives me some time to do some much needed tuning with my car.

Well i cursed myself. In last year's infineon wednseday night drags thread i told Brian (tstkl) that whenever you say your car is running good or even great, that something is about to break or go wrong with the car. I knew i shouldnt have said my car was running good and hard and whatnot, because what do ya know? I broke something yesterday.

So there i was sitting at the staging lanes, 5 races ago, Joel's DSM blew off the oil filter and spewed oil all over the track, OK now its my turn to race, i stage my car floor the gas, studderbox at 5500rpm, i start to slip the clutch (slightly faster than usual) and right when the clutch is let out WHACK!!!!!!!! Oh shit i think to myself and let out and short shift to second gear. That netted me a 26.4@40 mph.... just cruisin down the track.

Damn i think to myself, so i come back around, get my timeslip, dont really care what it says because i didnt race that time. I finally track down dave who was helping Joe fix his car and he came over and didnt see anything since he was helping joe, so i described to him what happened and he says the stock (193K) 3-bolt has probably died on me. So we get under the car, start grabbing axels and shaking stuff to check for obvious breaks or excessive freeplay...nothing really checks out. So we decide to do a short roll on wot in 1st gear just to see if something breaks then. Nothing really happens except i spun the front wheels. ( i do have a welded diff in the car) So we thought the car would be ok to drive a while since nothing broke under 15psi. We went and helped Joel put his car on his trailer (smart guy for bringing a trailer when racing a dsm!).

Dave, joel, you missed this part.
SO i say peace out to Dave and Joel. Leave infineon, easy on the throttle, easy ..... I get to the stoplight on 37 westbound towards 101, leave the stoplight cruise, get about 1/4 mile and feel this weird vibration, that turns into a wobble, that turns into a tap tap tap, then turns into a thunk thunk thunk, by this time ive crusied off the road and am coasting very slowly in neutral with the clutch in. Call my Alstate motor club whatever towing service, nobody in the area wants to tow somebody to SF, so a towing company from SF had to come all the way up to get me and an hour later im riding home on the flatbed.

SO something in the drivetrain broke. IT honestly sounds like its coming from the driveshaft carrier bearrings (i think thats what they are called) if not the T-case area. The car still drives and rolls, but anything over like 3mph i get that thump thump thump. Hopefully its just those bearrings, but if its the t-case or rear end, im royally F'd for a little while because im broke as hell. Im going to go out soon and check out the car since it was dark and on the side of the highway last night. Wish me luck folks, if anyone knows specific things to check to rule different things in the drivetrain out let me know. I thought id start with the wobble check again, possibly jack up the rear end and try to rotate the wheels, then if im still stumped i'll start draining things and see if i find any metal shaving.

Lesson to be learned here folks. DSM's hate us! Dont ever tell your DSM or any of your friends taht your car is running fast or good or great or the best it ever has or anything along those lines. This theory of mine is proving itself that the dsm will hear you and will break on you within a week of you stating that the car is running great!.... Just a word of advice.

Happy boostin.

Well i just took a look and i broke my drivers side axel off into my 3-bolt lsd. IT broke right where the splines start.
Does anybody locally have a good condition 3-bolt lsd or a 4-bolt thats complete with everythingi need for the swap? (3-bolts i'll just need the diff and possibly a drivers side axel)

Paul at new logics has a 3-bolt non lsd for me but if i can find a lsd or a 4bolt locally i'll be happy to come pick it up. IF not i'll just go with the 3-bolt from paul for the time being.

EDIT>. ...... oh by the way HUSLERTALON. the race gas at infineon. they have 91, 96, and 100 unleaded. The 100 was like 5.95 a gallon 96 was like 4 something and the 91 was expensive. then they have like 112 114 and 116 leaded. i think all were in like the $6+ range.

Cool, thanks man...I really wanted to go to the track yesterday but since I read that you guys thought it might rain, I didn't want to take the chance of driving 2 hours for nothing so I left to LA instead. I hope to go this coming wednesday if everything goes well.

What a day.
You both hit good times, then you both broke! Joel blew away his previous best of 13.3 with a 12.6. His car was flying! Unfortunately so was his oil filter, it tried to fly off the car at the end of the run and spilled oil everywhere. It also blew out a rubber coupler. It's easy to fix, but it sure ruined the day.

Danny, what was your best run? I remember a 13.7 at 100mph, is that right? Do you need a diff too? Or can you fix it with just a drivers side axle? I know the drivers side axles are the same between lsd and non-lsd.

If anyone's going next week I'll go too. I wanted to run the Laser but the exhaust was hitting the undertray (and you wonder how I get such good mpg in that car!) and I didn't want it to fall off at 100mph.

That last run where i broke was going to be my fastest run! I came out of the hole hard, the damn boost was finally turned up, but i only made it less than 60 ft before i let out of the run. But to answer your question i think the 100mph pass right off the freeway was my fastest. I never went faster than 13.7, i got two of them. One with a 2.0 60ft and 100mph trap, and the other with a 1.8 60ft and a 98mph trap. Then i missed second gear on the 3rd run and broke on the 4th. All in about an hour of being at infineon.... really nice man there wasnt ANYBODY there.

The rear diff, probably has to be replaced. The axel snapped the splines off into the diff and there are nice metal shavings all around in there. I dont think i'll be able to clean them all out. The axel shows about 3mm of 3 splines and the rest broke off clean inside. Paul said it is possible to get the piece out if i want to go through the process, but the integrity of my stock 193K 3-bolt lsd is kind of shot.

Thanks for the info on the rear diff Raul! gotta love finding parts locally, your friend wasnt working today so i'll give him a call tomorrow.

Sean at FFTEC has a nice complete 4-bolt setup sitting there ready waiting for me, but im soooooo broke right now. Id have to ask the parents for some money and i hate asking them for money!

hahahahahaha,...

Im almost ready to dust the spider webs off this thing and take her for a spin. Everything is in, I just need to secure all the new lines, the new fuel filter, and install the inline pump and fuel cell. Im really tempted to take the car somewhere and have the spair tire hump cut out and re welded on upside down so that I can run the fuel cell in the trunk, which I will do regaurdless. That way I can keep that spair down below. I also want to get a peice of sheet metal to bolt on to where the stock tank did mount, to protect the new fuel pump. I'll call paul and talk to him about that, the sheet metal I can do myself though.

I think I'm going t3, I keep switching things up on myself. Buschur ran his daily driver into the 9's on fp's 3065, then switched to the t3 housing (he didn't say which a/r, I asked him about his set up) and put down 643 whp. Thats an evo though, so I REALLY can't assume I'll get the same results in this case. Honestly, my goals for this car are 600+ whp off the bottle, and 9.9999999999999 or better, but I don't except to see those results anytime soon, especially with me behind the wheel. It will be fun to go through this process all by myself, since this is my first car, and I really am jumping into the unknown, I'll just be happy at the end of every day to be able to say, I put this thing together with my money, my sweat, and my blood. I guess I would be pissed if I still couldn't get out of the 14's, but I think with that kind of power it would be hard to run that slow, LOL.

I am tempted to run it how it is with the new fuel set up, but I've got a long road to the state meet in front of me, so I would rather focus on that up through june 2nd. After that I can take it easy, try and get in 40+ hours per week, and blow a load of cash on this demon.

just figured I'd update you guys. Hopefully by the time I have time to take my shit back up to infineon, Dave will be ready to bring out the big bad talon again. I know even if I build the block, head, and get that new gt3582r, I'll still be slower than you, LOL.

OH man! you guys missed a good one tonight!

Joels car ran a 12.2 right off the trailer, his best ever. Then a couple runs later his car blew an oil line or something and the oil spray caught on fire! He ran a 12.8 while in flames! The flames lightly roasted the left side of the car, then blew out by itself. No serious damage, just a mysterious and large oil leak somewhere.

I did something I've never done before. Somehow I managed to run 14.0 four times in a row. I've never run that consistent before. I was really hoping to get into the 13's. Oh well, it was still fun.

WOW, they are going to ban him from the track for spraying too much oil all the time! Haha, jk. I wonder what caused the fire? How much damage does the car have... is it real bad or just a small flame?

How much boost were you running dave? What kind of gas. I used to run real consistent like that in my old tired gst. 15.0's though haha!

I was using a couple gallons of 100 octane and 20psi of boost. The car was pulling strong, but had zero traction in first gear. It really made me wish I had my Talon out there. FWD sux.

Joels car had slight burn marks on the back part of the left front fender. The flames reached all the way back to the rear bumper, one of the stickers just behind the rear wheel was singed and wrinkled.

There's no racing next Wed. It picks up again May first. So you guys have some time to fix your car, break in your motor, schedule an afternoon off from work, or whatever.
And I have time to get a cage welded in!

Thats what i like to hear!

Plenty of time for me to get my 4-bolt in. I have to give Sean a call again to make sure he hasnt sold the 4-bolt yet so i can go pick it up. I want to swap it myself but i dont have all the tools and im not too sure of myslef. My damn teacher hated on me and said i cant do it at school for a couple of weeks. I want to take it to FFTEC, but Im broke and cant afford a tow+labor, let alone the damn 4-bolt itself! I can credit car the 4-bolt and try to get it in myself, i think thats the most power and cost efficient method. Hopefully i'll get it in soon enough to get back to tuning with my 1/4tank 91 1/4tank of 100 unleaded. Then get that sucker to the track and run a damn 12!!!

Is he the reason why we were standing in line for like an hour and a half without racing??? Funny thing is that all that happend just as I got there, then I saw a blue DSM on a trailer going out and I was like hopefully he didn't blow something....that sucks.

12.3 and 12.5....I got eliminated on the 12.5 run. sux, I drove for 2 1/2 hours, paid $25 and only got 2 runs.

You must be the guy with the White Talon from Salinas? I was checking out your car, I'm the OG who asked about your cam sprocket cover. Nice to meet you. :)

Oh. Nice to meet you man...hopefully I can go back again to try out my car again...I really want to take my car to Sean at FFTEC to get it perfectly tuned but im low on cash  I have to deal with this crappy tune i have for a while...im just so anxious to run 11s soon. Maybe a little race gas and more boost will get me 11s...

Has anybody made any progress with their cars?
Ive got the 4-bolt laying in my garage. I think i might try to get it in the car sometime this weekend if its not raining. If it rains, i'll ask my teacher again if i can bring the car to the shop to fix it... im not sure if he'll let me because i cut a couple classes this last week. After the 4-bolt is in, its just boost and tuning for me for a while. I might pick up an intake from my friend and fab up a CAI, but no major mods planned for me for a while.

I'm working with Sean at FFTec.com to get my car dyno tuned next week. Then the roll bar goes in with a 5 point harness, some fire proof clothing and I'll be ready to try for TENS! I'm getting a cromoly cage to save some weight, plus it's uber-cool.

I'm also thinking of getting some lightweight 15 inch rims with big drag radials, like maybe 235/60 x15. I need to sell my od rims first, so if you know anyone who wants a set of 16x7.5" 300z wheels with good Kumho MX tires, let me know.

are you just renting out dyno time or are you having sean tune it? also...are you still going to be burning chips?

Nice Dave! Cromoly sounds nice! Im going to have to laugh at you when we go to the track and you are sporting your fireproof fit. But then you will laugh at me trying to break into the 12's as you hit 10s! You should embroider "formula D" on the back of your racing suit!

I think some nice dyno time for you to get your tune perfect and some DR's are your ticket to 10's! Good luck man, hopefully i'll have my car fixed in time to see it happen.
