Why do you guys spend all this money on shitty expensive namebrand boost controllers? Mine has held everywhere from 12 to 22 PSI solidly and it cost me like 10 bucks from eBay.

And just what makes you think that us, guys spend lots of money on that crap?
I won mine in a contest, Danny picked his up from his buddy for dirt-cheap (If I remember correctly) no one in their right mind would blow $200+ on that piece of sh!t

so what boost controller is that  :sneaky:
got a seller name, and what kind is it...

im pretty set on just buying a regular single stage mbc, but there are so many im lost as to which one will work good for me.:toobad:

HMMmmm is it going to rain on wednesday? As of now, and weather.com it should be sunny/partly cloudy so hopefully it stays that way.

I started my car and hit it up with the multimeter and its charging good at like 13-14volts but my coolant light comes on dimly, so i dont know if its on its way out or what.... only time will tell i guess.

ok so I basically have to go, I arranged to pick up some black evo 8 rims on my way back from infineon, so I might as well go even if all you guys back out on me again. Paul, can I go up with you and danny? when are you leaving. I want to stop in redwood city to get some 100 octane fuel so I might just call up black awd and find out when hes leaving. maybe I'll just drive my car to school and ditch my later periods since I probably won't even get marked absent in those clases. schools a joke after ap testing is done.

so if paul and black awd could list when they are leaving and all that stuff, that would be really helpful. That is if I can tag along with you guys.

btw the mbc I made holds higher psi's well. I think I just used too big a spring and too big a bleeder hole so it doesn't hold lower psi's, but if you cut the spring it should be fine. Me and tim want to start making them and selling them on ebay. They look perfectly fine, and we found all the parts at home depot, so we easily could.

I need to do some spur of the moment tuning with this methanol. I might just do it when im at the track. All i did thus far was install the injection, and crank up the boost. With a little tuning, i think i can make a little more power. At 20psi with everything zero'd out in dsmlink im running about a 10.5/1 a/f ratio. I think i can either lean things out a little or maybe advance the timing, or maybe both! ;) All i need now is to get a mbc that will hold boost solid for me. Anyone have any recommendations that have worked flawlessly for them?

Brian, im leaving SF at like 1:30. Im planning on getting there real early b/c its going to be crowded. IF you can, remember to bring that splash shield for me because i need it now. I'll break you off a few bucks for it. See if you have any of the screws/tabs that go with it because i know i dont have any.

Alex, you got my vote! Too bad you cant make it wed.

Dave, are you planning on coming on wednesday? If you are, i know i'll have someone to chat with when i get there extra early. Is the talon smogged yet?

Ron, if you go, race the damn supra already!!

So, as of tuesday, who's planning on going on wednesday?
Right now im pretty sure that its me, brian, and paul.... anyone else?

it sucks its going to be crowded, but I'll go anyways, gotta get me some evo rims. We SOLD THE PARTS CAR!!!! finally..... but this means, I don't have the screws. I do have the sheild in my trunk though....

paul what about you.... Im going to find out where redwood city is and stuff and see where I have to go. Ill make some calls after school to see who I can tag along with.

wow, redwood city is very south, I thought it was north of sf, not south... anyone know of a station with unleaded high octane gas thats north? maybe Ill just suck it up and buy leaded and hope the best for my wideband o2 sensor. 114 is so expensive..... o well.... paul when you leaving?

Infineon has a Sunoco station with an assortment of high octane fuels to use. There shouldn't be a problem.

expect to pay like at least $5.xx a gallon though. Im pretty sure they go as low as 100 octane, if not just 104 or 110. And yes, some of them are unleaded. If was you id drive up there with less than a 1/8th tank and hope you dont run out of gas. Usually when i put race gas in the tank it feels like it takes me a mile or so of driving before i can feel the difference. I would ask if i could go for a spin afterwords. You dont want to have to do like 2-3 runs before the race gas starts getting used. I could be talking out of my ass here, but this is my seat of the pants feel for when i purchase race gas.

Damn brian! no screws! hmmm Mahesh said he has the splash guard on his parts car. I'll ask him if he either has the screws or both.

Dave, are you going hella early? I think im planning on being there like 2-230ish. I wanna get there, chill, let the car cool down, and probably eat lunch or something. Are you going to do any tuning with the talon with race gas when you put the exhaust on? You better not run a 12 before me!

tim they are plastic tab thingys.

anyways, last time I was there they had 114, 116, and 118 leaded gas only. I also check my plugs today, because my car has been feeling a little slow for the past month or so. Not slow like a civic, but slow like, before I did my mods slow. The plugs took a pretty hard hit from the advanced ignition timing, so I bought some bpr7es' to replace the bpr63s' paul put in there when I first got the car ~3.5k miles ago. I got my money sorted out and I might be a little too short for gas anyways.... Im sure if you fill up with race gas and do a quick circle it should slosh it around enough to mix it at least a little. leaded gas will be denser though, so it will settle on top of the unleaded gas no matter what, but how long that takes, who knows?

paul, when you leaving? I need to talk to you about gapping these new plugs and stuff. I have one of those coin gappers and was told those aren't accurate, also the plug gaps on some of the plugs is bigger than .28 inches already. Damn I really need money for gas...looks like I'll have to borrow or something.

black awd, you think you can bring 2-3 gallons of 100 octane from that gas station in redwood city and I'll pay you back. Its like 5 bucks per gallon, right? I can find 20 bucks just to be safe. pm me or something, I just left a message on your phone.

I noticed that 100 octane in Redwood City went up to $4.89/gallon. It's still worth it. Going out tuning tonight!

I have a pile of various bolts and tabs, I could bring a few for a splash guard if you need it.

I'm not sure when I'll be there, I'm expecting a package from UPS, so if it gets here early I can leave early. If it's late I can always drive fast :)

hey dave, do you think you could get 2-3 gallons of 100 octane gas and bring it up with you and I'll pay you back for it? your going out there anyways, and if you have one of those spair gas tank things it would really be a help.

Wut up kids, I'm chillin' down here with my grandparents for the night. Man it's nice to come down here to relax in La Selva Beach. Don't worry Paul, DSMDave and Dan, I'll be back in time to tag along to Sears Point.
tstkl:confused: , you shouldn't have any problems getting gas at the Station at Infineon. There are at least four different pumps with gas ranging in octane from 94 all the way to 116. I'm sure you'll find something unleaded (hint, hint:104;)) to feed your 'hot rod'.;)
NO DAN:D , the Supra is too friggin' slow to get out there. It's a barge and it would be out of place.

Sorry I coudln't respond earlier folks. Seeing how Ron is enjoying himself, I decided to take a day off and do absolutely nothing the whole day (I did wash my car though :) )

I want to roll out there a bit early too, so I will be leaving the shop between 1:30 and 2pm. Anyone wanting to join me MUST be there by 1:30pm.

If in need of directions, feel free to call me at 510-812-3985
Shop address is 3024 Giant rd, San Pablo, CA 94806.

Anyone can feel free to join us at the shop to roll out together.

ehhh, and what about my spark plugs, how should I gap them since they seem to be gapped too much the way they came? just crush them a little with my fingers? .28 inches, right? or .7mm. I dunno it looks like Im heading up there solo again. I'll leave as early as possible, but I don't want to punch it on the way over there with bad plugs.....

Relax, you will have no trouble gapping plugs. Gentle tapping of the ground electrode against something hard will bring the gap down, then simply open it back up with a a gapper (yes, that coin will do just fine) to whatever you need. If you're unsure, we can re-gap them when you get to the shop.

Uh, try gapping your plugs to .028! .28 is a little big :) Sorry I don't have a spare gas can, plus I already got some 100 octane yesterday so I could tune a little.

Brian, ron is right, there are 4 different pumps, some have as low as 87, 89, 91 like a regular pump. Each one IS different, i didnt know till a couple trips either, but you have to look for the specific pump you need, sometimes you will have to wait in line. Im pretty sure there is unleaded high-octane gas.
Get a feeler gauge to gap your plugs. Its easier, but the donut size thing will work too.

Paul, damnit i want to wash my car. depending on how early i wake up tomorrow i might just wash it. Or i might roll to the track birdshit and all. I'm planning on leaving at about 1:30 so expect to see me up their early as well. I want to make sure i'm running, and in the front of the line. Would you happen to have any tubing/clamps to help me with my dipsitck popping problem? or should i just pull out the dipstick and cap it? or just crimp the end a little?... this dipstick is getting annoying.

Dave, turbo2g, if you have the bolts/tabs and dont want or need them id be happy to take them off of your hands. I (well paul) mounted my methanol tank in my stock sidemount area and i dont have the shield, so i want to keep it cutty with the shield, even though it does just look like a coolant overflow bottle or winshield washer fluid tank.

I ordered a sbr mbc last night so hopefully when i get it i can run a solid 20psi tuned all day with methanol injection. Then dyno the car, then run 12's and improve on my driving!

so it sounds like the only things left to worry about are how early can I leave, and if one of you guys can be my "dad" so I can race in highschool. They don't check my age if I say Im running in super street, but Im guessing if I say Im in highschool they will. Don't worry I won't kill myself.

Im thinking 130 being the earliest, but maybe I can just ditch physics. Paul I'll try and get to your shop as soon as possible, but if you want me there by 130, I doubt I'll make it. Im in first period right now and I drove the minivan to school, so I have to go home, get my wallet with all my money (taking a lot of money to school is stupid) and my car.

danny, I too want to wash my car too, too bad theres no time................

to race in highschool all you have to have is $15 and a high school id. I know, i raced that class all through hs. $15 to race and $5 to get back across the golden gate. I couldnt think of a better way to spend $20 on a wednesday. Now a friday or saturday, $20 was well spent elsewhere, but we wont talk about that.

Im about to pull my sub out of my car, and get everything ready to go here in a minute so i should be leaving on time. I dont think im gonna wash my car, im too lazy, and my parents car is in the driveway.

See you guys in a couple of hours! and at the end of the track in 13.8 or less!

So i guess my alternator WAS on its way out:notgood:  . On the way to the track i thought i saw the coolant, oil, and brake lights coming on dimly, but i couldnt really tell. And it wasnt until after the track that i noticed that the lights were in fact coming on and my alternator is on its way out.

WHile i was racing at the track, i was having problems with random knock, rich and lean, i was spuddering down the track not reallying knowing if i was running too rich or too lean. It was rich knock....well the car was running rich and cutting out and spuddering from lack of spark and it was getting knock. My alternator wasnt putting out enough voltage so i didnt have enough spark energy to burn my entire fuel mixture, so i was just sputtering and popping down the track.

I ended up running 2 different 14.6's at like 98mph. I guess its not that bad, i was shortshifting and letting off and pretty much only going WOT through 3rd gear so they werent that bad of times for what was happening. My last run in eliminations i red lit (-.003) so i just putted down the track sputtering and short shifted into 4th and ran a 17.3 @ 57. :(

All in all it was not my day. Next time i go to the track i'll have a new mbc holding boost at about 20-22psi and i'll be good and tuned. Im going to change my alternator tomorrow or friday. Once i get that changed all i need is some tuning time and i should get a good run out of the car.

Other people seemed to have a good day, but i'll let them tell their own stories. :sneaky:

Blackawd, if your friend got me on videotape, delete all my runs/dont post em, i am not proud of them :notgood:
I'll have some better runs for you in the near future to tape!

danny, it wasn't a bad day for you, it was a bad day for us.....

random misfires, riching it up and then getting backfires, not knowing wtf is going on, I even dumped in some 100 octane and I could tell that helped with the knock as did richening it up, but I have no idea why my car is running so poorly.

It also sounds like on my last run, a 14.37 I did break all four of my weak ass'ed tires lose. The rpm's on the log in first gear just skyrocket unlike any of the other pulls, and my rpm's going into second are too low for me to have not spun some. those new evo rims/tires are REALLY nice. unfortunatly I do want to repaint them like marlin said I would, but they are nice. One tire has a little rim rash, thats all I noticed before I dropped them off at tims house. I made it home with probably 1.5 gallons of gas and had to fill up the second I got into town pretty much. Ironicly I was starving as well, so the drive home was pretty crappy for me.

NOTE: four evo 8 rims with 235/45/17r tires are HARD to fit in a 1g, but possible. the hatch wouldn't close at first....LOL....too bad they didn't come with 245 tires like I thought they did, but two of them are brand new, and the others are somewhat worn, but they look nicer than my current tires.

trap speeds didn't really increase throughout the night, I went from like 94.5 mph or something to 96.3, my top end was crap..... I really need to figure out why its missing/ backfiring. I think for 100 octane, my second run was the best with like 1-3 missfires, the first and last run I had were not so good. My first run was scattered with 10-15 missfires, where my third run had about 25 backfires from running too rich. o well.....
