Foo, you better leave my seats alone dude!!:mad: The Galant had a problem with the alternator which I replaced today, and I guess Paul helped a LITTLE;) And the problem with the wastegate was that it was not hooked up. The rod wasn't on the flapper arm. Now it is all good and runs perfectly. It is amazing to me how much better the build quality of the GVR4's is compared to the DSM's;). They are really solid cars. I was in S.F tonight hauling my drunk friends around from bar to bar as they searched for Poon, and it handled everything with very few squeaks and rattles. It was my first time ever driving a stock Mitsubishi 4G63 car, and it was cool. I'm even considering buying this car back, that's how nice it is.
 
I don't really want to take it to the track without some ignition timing control, but we will see, probably after the dyno day at the earliest.

btw my computer completely died finally.
 
Hopefully I'll be joining you guys after a couple of weeks! Testicle, I have a 90 EPROM that may or may not be broken.
 
how's your car coming together mahesh? I havent heard much about the setup except for the fact that you have an awd now that you are building up... what are the details/plans on the car? And when will it be hitting the track/streets?

I cant wait to hit the track again... If not this wed coming up then the wednesday after that. I need to replace my timing cover. If i cant find one by tomorrow locally, then im just going to order it.

Anyone else tryin to hit the track soon?
 
It'll be a 90 GSX with the same Big16G/supporting mods setup I had on black FWD... with a built motor/50trim setup coming afterwards. Still working out the kinks 3 hours at a time on Sundays. haha

Either our car didn't come with one, or I must have thrown it out. I didn't see any random pieces of plastic in the shed except my door handle. We still have that nice front mount though ;)
 
I might be ready for the track as early as this coming wednesday.
Dave and I worked out some chip settings, and I no longer have abnormal timing. My external dump housing is nearly finished (would've finished it today, but forgot the actual wastegate at home :mad: ), so I should be all set for 26-27psi on pump with meth.

Brian, our shop car is in reality Max's car, and that sucker didn't like supper-excessive vibration given off by 2.3. After that engine swallowed a bolt from TB shaft (freakin' ford TB :mad:), #1 cyl. was pretty much destroyed, and Max decided he wants to go back to 2.0. We've built a 2.0 with a set of lightly used Wisecos, but apparently a stress-crack in the ringland was present, so that piston destroyed itself in 600mi. So now, it's due for a new set of wisecos.
If it was my car, it'd be racing it long time ago, but Max is a slacker, which is why car hasn't seen the track so far. Either way, I have my baby Starion to worry about for now, so I'll let Max figure his own shit with his car.
 
Damn, I'd like to be there to see how the new chip works in Pauls car, but I have to neuter my car this week for smog check. Have fun! Go fast!
 
HAHA Pneumo:) Are you still considering bringing the 'Eunich Laser' to Infineon after the inspection? How much boost would you be looking to run?
 
Hey Dave,

I have specs ready for another chip. I'll give ya a call once the ECu is socketed.

On the side note, I think I maxed out my boost controller. At least it's back out all the way, and boost doesn't want to go up. I might just install simple ball/spring one, or bum that HKS EVC1 off Ron (I have better use for it anyway)
 
Um that's 'Eunich Talon' actually. My Laser still has some balls :) Yes, I will bring the Talon-ette to the track in stock form plus a full 3" exhaust, MBC, and special EPROM tuning. I'm just going to crank up the MBC and see how much boost it'll hold. It held 22psi last time so.... :)
 
Paul, i might be ready for the track this wed too. I ordered my meth injection, so if its here on monday then we can put it in on tuesday, and be ready for wednesday. If not, im not going to go.
Im still up in the air about the timing cover. Nobody seems to have one locally. A couple of people on the dsmlink forums have one for me, but ive yet to see pix of find out conditions of them.
One guy said that they are only $75 at the dealer. Can anyone confirm this? I'll check it out on monday. If the dealer is more expensive (which im sure it is) then i'll probably try to get one used from one of the guys at dsmlink.

Either way, paul, ill shoot to come to your shop either this tuesday or next tuesday. Wednesday's are off limits because those are obviously track days. Whichever day we finish up my car, im ready to hit the track the following day.

Mahesh, i hear ya! Im gonna see what i can do with this small 16g, (hopefully hit 12's) and then get a 50trim and build the motor if it goes, then i'll be shootin for low 12's or break into 11's. Good luck getting the car up and running proper! We need more bay area dsmfolk to rep at the track!

If everything goes as planned, I'll be at the track this Wed. too. My car's doing way better now. Ron and I got around to messing with my car and turns out my base timing was way off. We got that taken care of (thanks Ron) and I'm currently pushing 19psi 21* timing and 0 knock... Yay! I was just doing some tuning in Davis tonight and blew a coupler off, twice. Paul... we gotta bead that j-pipe, it's getting on my nerves. Mahesh... where've you been at man!? You gotta roll out to the track with us someday! Take care everyone...

First off, it's Sunday (well, monday morning already, but beside the point), your ECU won't get socketed till MONDAY. It is a common practice in US for businesses to be closed on weekends. On the same note; No, I didn't give Dave any specs yet. That will come monday/tuesday. After I decide how much timing you want and whenever Dave has free time, and I don't want to hear any whining on that matter, or I will specifically ask Dave to permanently move your redline to 3000rpm.

P.S. You have no idea, just how close your Palm came to a total anihilation via my foot. So did my i300 by the way.

Next tuesday im gonna go to pauls shop to put on the new timing cover and my meth injection. So me and you should line up that wednesday at the track (if we go) and see who is faster! Im guessing that the car is finally faster than your fwd right?! it better be 13's now, if not 12's! BTW, good tune man! 19lbs and 21* with no knock with an afc! Im proud of ya! We gotta see what happens with the chip from dave!

If i get the meth in, running well, and get a good tune im hoping to dip into the HIGH 12's next time at the track. Im running 91 octane right now with a whopping 13lbs of boost b/c im too lazy to tune it for more boost right now and then just tune again in a week when i get my meth installed.

We have to arrange another day with at least like 4-5 of us going! Its fun! Come on people, chime in, get a wednesday off and lets see what our cars can do! I have all wednesdays off from work so hit me up and as long as my car is running im down to go!
 
damn danny, you seem to really like speculating on whos car is faster and lining up head to head with people. I personally am not a fan, since my 2-3 shifting skills aren't up to par with anyones. My 3rd gear syncro must be dead or something, because every time I shift into 3rd, about half way there it pushes back as if it doesn't want to, then after a few milliseconds it goes in the rest of the way. Thats why I missed 3rd so much on that first day. Either that or that day at the track just made it a lot worse. Either way I think if I take the 2-3 shift a little slow (on the clutch side, I'll try and get it into gear as fast as possible, I just have to remember that the clutch stays in until Im sure its all the way in third.) I should be able to go much faster. Also some higher octane fuel to get rid of this knock from advanced timing would be nice too. Danny, where is the gas station in san jose that has 100 octane? I need to know for dyno day since Ill be hopefully running on about empty near then. I don't drive my car often enough to have it be a fully planned thing, since my average driving time is less than 5 miles a day or something. I guess I'll just have to take her out next weekend and play around with the tune some more. (idle/mid that is, no point in tuning on 91 octane when your just going to dump 100 in there later) Maybe I'll learn that whole rpm mode thing that the maft has. Damn, not having a computer sucks btw.

Ha! That would be fun, but if you really want to get nasty I can make the car fuelcut whenever TPS goes over 50%. :)

I took my Talon out for one last drive before I start swapping parts. I got to race a bike, I think. I'm not sure if it was a race since we both started out quick, then he seemed to drop back and give up. Oh well, it was still great to feel the power suck me back into the seat.
Mahesh, you should take your AWD car out and see what it can do before you swap in the new setup. It would give you a benchmark to compare future mods.

tstkl, you can get 100 octane at the 76 station at Almaden Expressway and Foxworth, which is a little north of Blossom Hill Rd.
 
Well I got off the phone with Paul and he was very pleased with how his 'Newlogics' O2 housing and external wastegate combo helped his car. I'll let him post about it if he wants, and I'll just say that his boost is rock solid now.:)

Talking about speculating...You are the one who PM'D me out of the blue before i even knew who you were and what not with the title "your car should be faster" talking all of this and that how my setup should be faster than it was.
Also the day before you went to the track you were talking all about how you should be running low 13's and maybe break into the 12's and 5 minutes later you post at thread in the track talk forum titled "help me launch my awd"...come on man.

About me "speculating".... Ive known the people that im talking to for a while and ive watched their cars come along, we've talked about our setups, what are plans for the cars are and how fast they are running currently, same with mine. I can cap on them and joke with them all i want about their setups... because thats what we do, back and forth. If alex ran a 14.4 with rediculously advanced base timing and knock on 15lbs of boost then once he has that worked out and tuned very well at 19psi, im pretty sure hes going to be in the lower half of the 13's if not breaking 12's..... And like i said, that SHOULD BE faster than his old car, the fwd that ran a 14.2.

About lining up heads up. Id rather race one of my dsm friends at the track than some 89crx or a s2k or some dumbass burning out in his fwd with winter tires trying to get them sticky to get traction with his junkyard car who drives passed the lights and cant stage at all. Im tired of beating those cars, im lucky if i get lined up with an sti or an evo b/c its a challenge. If i could run in the street class i would just to get to race v8's and show em what im made of.
The most fun ive had at the track was the one run i got against dave with his d/d the day that we were both running 14.0's, that was a damn close race.


You pissed me off the first time you ever talked to me, telling me that my car should be faster than it is when i had it on a conservative tune b/c it wasnt running correctly, dont push your luck running your mouth now... i dont take lip from little smurf high school kids.

If you want 100 octane, go to 975 woodside road in redwood city, its way closer than san jose.
