man get those injectors dialed in before you do tuning...i put my injectors in like 3 weeks ago and still dont have my fuel trims in line.... damn deadtime and global!!! i just want to up the boost and tune already!!!
Anyways, my parts come in monday, and hopefully i can get them put in tuesday...if not i might not run this wednesday. (new cluch pedal assembly, master cyl, slave cyl) I really want to go, but i dont want to jack my trans anymore ive only driven the car like 2-3 times since i went to the track last.

I might spend some highway time today just trying to get the injectors dialed in properly so i can do some real tuning once i install my wideband. DSMLink is great for tuning stock injectors, and when you have aftermarket dialed in. But the process of dialing them in is kind of a headache for me...
Hopefully we will have good weather wed!

Paul at new logics came through for me!!! i took my car there today and he's gonna do the pedal assembly, slave, and master cyls.... and put in my wideband... ill be up, running, and ready for whenever the weather allows!!! Hopefully breakin into the 13's this time around especially with some higher boost and better tuning. I found a pretty good boost leak... my line coming off of my turbo outlet pipe had a nice tear in it, kind of like it was cut...when i saw it i felt like the kid with the civic on PINKS!! haha

Anyways, im ready for the next track day at infineon that isnt rained out...

Danny

anyone know of a way to eliminate high idc's for cheap before next wednesday. also eliminate fuel cut? I just dropped 200 on innovatives lc-1 wideband o2. FFTEC HAS THEM FOR 175!!!!!! thats sooooo cheap for a wideband o2 sensor. im picking it up sat after my sat. (thats saturday after my S.A.T.)

I also got a turbo timer harness and the steel bung to finish off a few things. that makes my list that much shorter.

but anyways, anyone got like a free n/a fpr or 550cc injectors or something? LOL seeing 95% idc does not make me happy, and running 20 doesnt either. EXCEPT WHEN I GIVE IT SOME GAS :thumb:

this car has more torque than that evo I test drove. all across the power band too. if your in first gear it pulls like a MF at any rpm.

almost got everything running right short of this whole high idc thing. the wideband will let me see how much more I can lean it out, since I don't see too much knock while driving hard.

So i called infineon today and they will be racing. Looks like the weather will be ok!!!:thumb:

anyone going to go today?
I might not go because its kind of short notice and I dont have anyone to meet up with/ roll there with. A few of my friends are trying to go next week, but i dont know what the weather will be like...

But yeah, i just wanted to post up so nobody else has to call infineon.

Danny

I didn't go. It's been so long since the track was open that I completely forgot about it. As soon as I saw the sunshine this afternoon I jumped on my bike and went for a ride. It sure felt good!

OK so maybe next week if it's dry? My Laser is running good with the new 2G MAF and new clutch master and slave. I'm up to 18 psi of boost after a day of tuning and it won't hook up in second gear anymore! I'm sure it's a solid 13 second car now. I can't wait to find out. I'm setting a goal of 111mph trap speed in the 1/4 on pump gas, that would be about 310 hp. Let's see what she'll do!

Yeah i usually have my track day all planned out, I check my fluids, belts, tighten down all my clamps, pack a lunch, have my gas at the proper level, maybe pull out my sub for a slightly lighter weight, and i didnt do any of it. I planned on just having a lazy day at home and by the time i realized it was a nice day and not raining and i called infineon, i didnt feel like i had time to get all prepared and in the right mindstate to go run the car at the track. Not to mention that nobody else wanted to roll with me. TSTKL called me at about 6 and asked if i was going, but they dont let people in after eliminations start, and i had made other plans for the day. But there is always next week.

Well monday the cams come in from FFWDconnection. Hopefully they will go in the car on tuesday with some revised lifters, and all new seals. Tuning for 18psi on tuesday night (20psi if i feel like getting 100 octane) and then i should be solid 13's as well... 12's if i pull off a great tune and great driving!
As a matter of fact, i might go out and get a cool tune on 18psi tonight so ill be ready to drop in the new sticks and fine tune from there.....

Now all we need is the weather! Everyone do their indian anti-rain dance again!!!

Who is ready for for Wednesday the 5th?!?
I have a couple of buddys that claim they want to go, but they are kind of flaky... so we'll see.

you do realize today is the 6th, right?

Im not posting my times, its not like they would do anything but embaress myself. I was hoping one of you guys would show up with a helmet, so I didn't take as many runs as I could have, and was forced to dail in with only one run taken. I ran a very slow time the first time, so I had no idea what I could expect for the second run. I got a .6 better 60' time the second time, but missed third

and then missed third....

and then missed third for a third time....

and my et was .2 faster than the one before (still slow as hell) and 5 mph SLOWER. I think the fact that I was actually able to launch the second time made up those .2 seconds easy. my tranny isn't the best also....

lets just say I was nervious and delete that day from our memories.

btw dave, that fpr you gave me did help with my idc's, but now Im pulling so much airflow that my timing is sky high. Im knocking everywhere. I wish someone made a s-itc

that wideband o2 I bought isnt working either. I think im going to try and take it to paul and see what he can do with it. *$&# electronics....

haha 5th... im smokin the glass pipe man... i guess i meant the 12th... anyways, the first day at the track is just for that, missing shifts, bogging launches, driving through the lights... get out all those jitters man, then the next time come back with a better tune and some knowledge of what you are going to do and launch that sucker and make all your shifts.

Tonight i went out to try to tune for 18psi, but i cant get my damn boost controller to work with me... i dont like this dual stage mbc anymore, it saved my life when i had a gst, but i really dont need 2 stages with an awd.... that second solenoid on there just complicates things! My boost spikes to like 21psi then falls to like 16, i cant get it to spike to like 21 then fall to 18 and hold. Its hard to tune with such a boost spike because i have to pull hella timing because the knock that comes on with the initial spike likes to stay throughout the pull..... ehhhh i think im just going to swoop my friends mbc. he left it in my garage b/c he has to go smog his car. Im sure he wouldnt mind trading, seeing how hes fwd and all. I wish my mbc was a showtime bbq grill so i can just "set it and forget it!"
I'll probably swap em out tomorrow and see if i can get some steady boost. I dont mind a spike b/c i like that initial oumph, but it wont hold the boost level i want to redline!! damn mbc and 38mm internal gate!!!

Cant wait for wed!!!

danny

danny, I even brought your splash sheild. I dont think I'll go next wednesday due to track, but maybe, I dunno.

I called paul, Im taking my car to him and getting this wideband o2 sensor sorted out. I talked to him about my tune, and he was just suggesting things I couldn't do. the easiest thing would be to retard ignition timing, but I have no way of doing that short of moving the cas. Im getting a lot of knock because Im taking away so much fuel that the ecu is running to high of ignition timing because it thinks theres less air than there is. If I do go next wednesday, Ill bring a drainpan and gas tank and drain my tank dry, put in 1 or 2 gallons of race gas (Im that cheap) and do some runs. My current tune should look pretty good on 114. with the wideband, I could lean it out a lot more too. again, things are looking up for the talon at the track. Ill probably pull another ##.## again....:barf:

paul came through with fixing the wideband. I think I should just take it to him first time, every time. the guys at full function are just so expensive.

now to figure out how to change the com port

I'm glad to hear the high pressure FPR is working out for you. High timing is one of the drawbacks when you add more fuel. Like Paul said, use the cas to pull out a couple degrees of timing. It will make the car feel slightly more sluggish when driving around town, so use the SAFC to pull fuel out in the 1k to 3k rpm range. Try about 3 clicks leaner on the lo throttle points, and 5 or 6 clicks leaner in the hi throttle point. Then add a little more fuel on hi throttle setting at the rpm where knock starts. The idea is to use the safc to adjust the timing and fuel at the same time. It's a compromise, but it's better than running low boost from too much knock.

Danny, which cams are you getting? I like the price on those DKS cams, very nice. FYi back in the day I had a 16g with a big flapper and after I added cams the wastegate would blow open and boost would drop to about 15 psi, starting around 5k rpm. It sucked. So I added another spring on the outside of the wastegate arm and it let me hold over 20 psi steady. I might still have that spring in my pile-o-junk. I'll bring it if I can find it, just in case you need it.

Now we just need some dry weather dammit!

having a safc would be nice, wouldn't it...

too bad Im stuck with this maf-t combo right now..

maft? ack! can't help you there.
I also would like to add that turing the boost down is not an option either. its creeping to where its set at now.

I've got so many problems,... and they could all be solved with some halfway decent gas, unlike this bullshit california pisswater 91... give me some 110 octane and Ill take any car, any day ROFL

at least I wouldn't have advanced ignition problems causing knock, nor would I have too high of boost problems since 20-22 lbs is not too high for 110

Heh heh..... cams are great....
Dave, i got the 264/272 "DKS1's" from ffwd. I actually bought the last set from extremepsi for $365 shipped, now they want a core charge i guess...
I had paul install them today along with some revised lifters. I got a slightly pleasant suprise when i found my balance shaft belt snapped in half and sitting all the way at the bottom with all the grooves rubbed off by the teeth on either sides of the snap, the middle still had the grooves so it was kind of just chillin there not wanting to move either way, or fly everywhere and grenade my engine... man i dodged a bullet. Paul said it was the first time he had ever seen a belt just sitting there like that... I guess i have been treating my dsm nice lately so its being nice back to me!!!

SOOO... about the cams, we measured them and the lift is less than the stock cams...??? the duration is greater, obviously, but i guess ffwd just uses the lifters to compensate the valve lift back to stock specs...?? (i guess.....gotta love hydraulic lifters)

Anyways, i had no knock on the way there, and then the cams went in and i had knock from 4000 up so i richend things up since i was a little lean for 91 (11.2-11.8 a/f range) and got it down to about 10.7-11.2 but havent advanced timing any, the knock went away for the most part, except for when my boost wanted to hold higher than i wanted. I also turned down my idle to 750 with dsmlink, and i get a nice slight lope with the cams. I think they sound real good. If i have the idle at like 900 or above you cant really tell its cammed, but its my first day and i wanna hear the lope until i get sick of it! (NEVER)

Tomorrow, maybe thursday or friday, ill go and fill up with 100 octane in redwood city, put my friends mbc on to try to get a solid boost level, and try to get a better tune out of the car. Then the car will sit until i can take it to the track and pound it!!! the other night i got an OK tune out of the car on about 16-17psi but i had to pull way too much timing... I did a 1/4 mile run with the car and with the new slave/master/clutch peday assembly that paul most skillfully put in for me, i can launch a lot better (1.8's baby!!!) and shift WAY smoother. The car feels like its 13's for sure now, once i put the 100 octane in and get a little more timing/boost, i'll be wearing my helmet every run at the track!

Dave i hear ya man!!! damn this weather!!!!!
I have all wednesdays off! Tuesday/wednesday is officially my work weekend, and i havent got to enjoy my weekends at the track yet!!!
STOP RAINING!!!!!!

*edit*... enjoy another novel post by danny! haha

Danny- don't worry about the lobe height. The FFWD DKS cams are regrinds so the base circle is also smaller, total lift is just like HKS 264/272. Lope is cool!
I also had a balance shaft belt break like that, freakin scary how close it was to taking out the whole motor.

Speaking of high octane, where do you get 100 octane in Redwood City? I know it's a 76 station, but I've never gone to the one in RC. I know of a 76 station in SJ that has 100, it was very convenient when I worked down there. The way gas prices are going it's not that much more $ for 100 octane anymore. I could get used to daily driving at 30 psi of boost!

I think its something like 975 woodside road in Redwood city. I have it written down in my car. I'll go check later and update the post. Its a 76 station for sure and its on woodside road. Its ALWAYS $4.69 a gallon and i also would rather spend the 4.69 for 100 rather than 3.05+ for piss 91. It is sooooo worth it. YOu can get a great tune with 100 and its very responsive. Almost all the timing/boost you could want, and you dont mess up your cat b/c its unleaded.

I'll update a little later with the exact address.
And if i change my boost controller and still am blowing my wastegate open ill let you know about that spring Dave.

Danny

damn, now I want to go up there and buy like 40 gallons. use like 5 per tank. thats a long while with how much I drive my dsm.

I think I will get dsmlink.... solve a lot of problems all at once.

sounds like cams might have to be bumped up on my mod list. as it sits now, they are after link, sbr cast exhaust manifold with tail 38mm, o2 housing, 8 an- fuel lines, supra fuel pump, aeromotive fpr, high flow fuel filter, then a 60-1 or gt35r. once i get that far, I was going to get larger cams next, but maybe I should push it up sooner.

once that is all done, I should be pretty well off in the power aspects of things. then I could spend a few months tuning out that extra .2 hp and work on suspension/weight reduction.

just to get the local's opinions, Im thinking about removing the entire pop up assemblies as my next mod, and putting in some camaro headlights behind the stock turn signals. I found the bracket with all four lights on craigs grand ol' list for a cool 50. then ill fab up some way to open the pop up halfway to let the air filter really breath. I could compair with/without 1/4 mile times if I wanted to. also, having projection lights looks better imo. weight loss, more air to the airfilter, I bet the turbo will sound louder, and cooler headlights. anyone agree?

A pop up air scoop? Roll up to the start line, hit the dash button and a CAI pops up! I like it

That's a nice price for 100 octane. That's where I'm going for my next fill up. I just paid 3.15 for 91 octane today. ouch

yeah i was right.... 975 woodside road, redwood city, CA... $4.69, and its worth every penny. The only thing that sucks is the drive there and back... (my dsm gets horrible gas mileage) so i think im going to invest in 2 5gal gas containers and fill those up too. That should be enough for an extra fill up in my car.

Last time i went there, i asked them how i could persuade one of my local gas stations to start serving 100oct... but they said its all up to the owner of the station. I bet if one in SF would stock 100 then it would get a lot of business.

Hope this helps fellas!

yea, until it was closed down by the city.

I wonder if I could convince my boss to get 100 octane at our place. too bad the gas pumps were removed and its no longer a gas station, we just work on cars here... but all the electrical stuff is still set up I think... either way I know its not going to happen. I think Im definatly doing the pop up delete mod. 50 bucks for a unique look...
