I'm in! My Laser passed smog last week, so the mods are back on! I'd like to see what my FWD daily driver can do. Plus I found out how to program my eprom so it adds timing as the air temp goes down, and I want to see how well it works.

hey pnuemo... is your name dave? If so remember me i sold you the trans from my crashed red 90 gst. How'd that case work out for you? It'll be good to see another dsm OG at the track. Im starting to like this turnout!

Danny

Hi Danny, yep it's me. I thought that was you.
My tranny eventually started popping out of gear, so I just swapped in yours. Done in one day. I even took the car to Infineon last Fall with that trans, ran a 13.9@107. The trans didn't like NLTS at high rpm, and REALLY didn't like doing the 3>2 downshift, but it was a solid trans, no funny noises or odd vibrations. It was worth what I paid. So I took my time and rebuilt the other trans, which is an old TRE trans with all the goodies, then swapped it back. I hope to go faster tomorow!

I just realised, I could totally go, let me see if I can get tim to come too. I'll try to make it out there asap. as of now the talon has no gas in it at all, but I live at the top of a hill and the gas station is at the bottom, so if I roll it the whole way down I can get some gas and be on my way. wanna save some room for the all mighty race gas though, and keep her on the empty side for weight reasons. is there anywhere to keep your spare tire and stuff? im paranoid about that stuff getting stolen. im still sick, but im just bleeding out of one nostrile now, and I stopped throwing up. I think I'm going to try and make it out there tomorrow too.

You are doing the opposite of me LOL
I got full tank of gas (Passing over the full needle)
I put 91pump gas
And I'll have my 2 front rims+tires inside my car while racing because I want to use my set of drag radials and I don't want to drive em on the highway haha
Not sure if Infineon has a space to store items...i doubt it.
I'll prep myself better for CMI

Haha good luck luis, Those dr's should help but with all that weight your gong to be hurting. From what I remember ifineon didn't really have places to store shit, they had these weird garage lockers that I had no idea what they were for. I would say just leave them off to the side but I wouldn't trust anyone at Sears. Too many shady ass ricers, at sac I just left my rims and tools sitting by the bleaches and didn't have a single problem.

maybe we can just alternate who has all the stuff in there car. I know im down for taking everyones stuff in my car while its cooling down between runs, just make sure you get your stuff before I have to go and all will be good. I think if we just offset our runs by like 10 minutes, it would work. ill probably just run with everything in my car, o well...

Thanks zach, weight will hurt me a bit but not much I can do. For CMI i'll be well prepare and ready plus I can leave my stuff at the pits where some friends will BBQ :thumb:
I'm just going to see what kind of times I can pull, i'll find out tomorrow. NO TRACTION OWNS ME

Sorry guys, but there isnt really anywhere to put your stuff unless you have a friend running in a different class. There isnt really downtime where you can offset your runs at infineon either, you line up in line(different classes) and you race when they tell you to race. Looking back at all my timeslips between years its about 1hr inbetween each run that you get. Thats why a lot of people dont like infineon...over sac that is...

Dave, thats strange to hear, the trans worked perfect for me...maybe something with the crash jarred the trans. Actually lately ive been thinking of how much i miss shifting that trans and how butter it was, and how it actually DID downshift from 3-2 unlike my car now!!:notgood: ... But hey as long as you were satisfied with it im happy, sorry it doesnt seem to be in as good of condition for you as it was for me, but i would take that trans over the one i have in my awd any day!!

Anyways it'll be good to see all of you guys tomorrow. Im still trying to get some injector and airflow issues worked out with my dsmlink so im going to be running a very mild tune with a lot lower boost than id like (stock 12psi) for all the supporting mods. But hey i have all the supporting mods i need now so why risk messing stuff up/blowing my motor on the first day of the track season (for me) when i have the rest of the year to up the boost and tune for 12's!!! Im hoping to get the first day jitters and misshifts and bad launches out of the way tomorrow and really do some damage later on in the season.

Ill give infineon a call in the morning just to make sure that there are no "high winds" or anything that will make them cancel... i highly doubt it but ill check just to make sure...

Hope everyone makes it out there and back safely!
Happy boostin

parents are pulling the bs flag and took my keys. they really don't want me racing. maybe next week ill just disappear, but can't make it today, sorry guys...

You should tell em even cops go to the track and race with us. Is a way to support legal racing and not illegal street racing.

yeah...thats kind of weak... tell them you want to "top the cops" ha... Or what greddygst said. Or that you were looking forward to the track where you can race leagally, and when they give u the keys back u are going straight to the closest straightaway and getting all the racing out then, on the streets, where its ILLEGAL!

On another note, i called infineon just now to make sure everything is a go and racing is still on so i hope to see everyone soon.

Well it seems like only me and dave (pnuemo) made it out. We had fun though. We both got 3 runs before the track got real cold and it started sprinkling. They kicked us out because of track safety because of how cold/wet it had gotten. However, next time we go we just have to show them our ticket stubs from today and we'll get in for free :thumb:

I got my personal best ever today, :thumb:
My first run i got to race dave, since we got there at the same time and lined up against eachother.... very close race. I beat him in ET, but he beat me in RT so he won "technically" haha... he said he'll post up the timeslip when he gets home and scans it for you all to see.
Ill breakdown my runs for you.

Runs - 1, 2, 3(missed 2nd, damn dragging clutch!!)

R/T - .514 - .129 - .255
60' - 1.971 - 1.942 - 1.876
330' - 5.791 - 5.825 - 6.223
1/8 - 9.055 - 9.044 - 9.586
MPH - 77.22 - 78.54 - 75.56
1000' - 11.766 - 11.713 - 12.322
1/4 - 14.086 - 14.019 - 14.719
MPH - 97.76 - 98.41 - 91.37

Me and dave were both floating around in the 14.0 range and were trying to brake into the 13's, but the weather and track didnt let us find out. Im pretty sure with another run and the tuning we did inbetwen runs that we could have. I guess we'll just have to wait for next time.

My second run i beat a bone stock evo 8 :D who wasnt launching his car right ... here is his run..., line it up with my second run and you can see it was a damn close race! I shifted out of first too early on that one and he gained a little on me, then i came back top end and juuuuust got him. he ran 2 13.8's for his other runs so i got lucky this time, but hey a win is a win.

.021
2.116
5.793
8.996
77.24
11.741
14.122
92.37

Hope to see some more dsm'rs out there next time, i had fun today and i'll get to race for free next time!

how does this whole r/t thing work anyways? what is bracket racing? next week I'm going to disappear. I have my keys back, and no one will notice til its too late...:sneaky: YOU DIDN'T BREAK 13's? that means I'll get to see you into the 13's then. At 12 psi with (I'm assuming you didn't fix your maf problems) maf problems a low 14 is nice. Your so close, just turn your head around and breath backwards and the thrust will get you into 13's. thats how close you are....ROFL

Well...i turned it up to 15psi... but still couldnt get in... Im having horrible shifting problems...i dont think anyone else driving my car right now could do any better. But when i get my clutch/trans problems worked out i'll be in the 13's for sure..

YOu know what i just looked at the timeslips and the EVO did beat me :notgood:
Damn bracket racing rules!!! he won by 0.0058...thats a damn close race!

I scanned my actual timeslips... does anyone know how to post em, or can i e-mail someone so they can post them for me.?? Id like to have them in the thread and a url so that i can have my 1/4mi time in the list on the webpage...

TSTKL, you better be there next time! and i hope i do break into the 13's no matter who im with! I'll explain the bracket racing and r/t thing to you in person...its kind of hard to type out. It works out so that you are racing yourself and your own dial in time and reaction time instead of racing the car next to you. Whoever has the best reaction time and the closer run to their dial in time wins. That way a minivan running 18's can beat a corvette running 12's, its all about consistency. Ill explain it a lil better in person, unless anyone else wants to chime in.

Reaction time is the time it takes from where the last green light is lit to the time it takes to get your car to break the first laser. On a test and tune run, like at the wed drags before they start doing the bracket racing and any test and tune day, the r/t does not effect your run what so ever. Even in bracket racing pro racing the r/t does not effect e.t.

Bracket racing is where you dial in your time, say 13.0 for example, and you race agaist someone else who also has a time dialed in. The point of bracket racing is to not only cross the line first but also to get as close to your dial time as possible. They also hold the lights for the faster of the two cars so that the slower one gets a handicap. If you dial 13 flat and the guy you are racing dials in a 14 his lights will drop a whole second before yours. If however you dial 13 but run a 12.9 you lose. Even if you cross the finish before the person you are racing.

Now in bracket racing and pro racing where crossing the line first equals the win your reaction time can mean the differance between winning or loosing. Since crossing the line first is the main objective leaving the lights first is key. That is why a person with the slower car can still win. If you have two 13 second cars(13.0 dial in time) and one person sits at the light for a half second longer all other things equal the person who got the worse r/t is going to loose because he crossed the line second.

Save the pic to your gallery it then gives you a url to put in threads when you want to show the pic.

95% IDC and 7 counts of knock in third gear at about 6000 rpms is the only thing that worries me right now. I think I should be able to pull off a 13 easy. I dont have the option of turing the boost down like you do. hopefully my injectors stay in tip top shape so I dont have to start going any higher in IDC. If I could add 2% fuel to my wot trim I would be so happy. alas, fuel cut is what is keeping me with such an agressive tune. I dont exactly like running so lean, since I am getting a little tiny bit of knock, but thats pretty damn close to exactly where I want it. and thats with just a maft, and I havent figured out that rpm mode or whatever. I need to subtract some idle fuel and add 2% to wot like I said, the fuel trims high read like 82% or something like that, but the car stock likes running rich as hell, so I think thats fine, but I could be wrong. Im sure with a sealed (my manifold is cracked) exhaust manifold and larger injectors I could run a much faster time, but next time I go I'm hoping for 13.2ish. I just realised I have track meets on wednesday, so let me check if I'm free next wednesday or not.

will the timeslip still show 13.0 if thats what both cars ran, and then the r/t would be 0.00 for one and 0.5 for the other car. or would one say 13.0 and the other 13.5? as long as I get the fastest time my car is capable of and my timeslip shows it, I'm happy, win or lose.

man you need to run your car not your legs!!! come on!
haha, anyways zach explained it pretty good. If you take the difference from your r/t from the ideal say .200, to an ideal of .000 and the difference between a 14.0 dial in and a 14.1 then you get .300. If another car dials in at 14.0, gets the same reaction time .200 and runs a 14.05, he will win. the difference is .250. Say you both run 14.1, but one gets a better reaction time of .150 vs. a .200, then it will really be a .250 to a .300. Get what im saying man? you want to have the least amount of time from ideal reaction, to actual reaction, and you want to be as close to your "dial in" as possible without going under or "breaking out".

Thanks zach ill try that right now... but i need to make the image smaller...

Your reaction time will never ever ever affect your e.t. You can sit at the light for 20 seconds then run a 13 second run and your timeslip will say 13.0@xxmph.

Ya t5hey make you size down the image like crazy I hate it. It completely destroys pic quality.

OK here's the timeslip. It's pretty cool how me and Danny got to run together, that almost never happens. Usually you just run against whoever got in line next to you, like the guys in front of us, a STi against a :tease: Toyota Starlet!
This was a fun race, I got off the line quick for about ten feet, then his superior AWD launch catapulted him ahead for a while, right about the 1/8th mile mark my top end kicked in and I blew past for the win. On the timeslip Danny is #108 on the right, I'm on the left #18. Check out the 60' time, can you tell which car is AWD and which is FWD? Oh yeah, this is in my FWD Laser, not the car in my profile. You can also see how strong of a top end pull fwd cars have. From the 1/8th to the 1/4 mark I gained 22mph, while Danny gained 20.5mph.
I'm sure both of us would've been in the 13's if we were allowed to run again since the headwind died down, we both made the right adjustments to our tuning, and airtemps cooled down some more. My second run was a 14.095 with a 2.4 60'. If I hadn't missed the 2-3 shift on my 3rd run I would've hit a 13 since I nailed a nice 2.3 60' time. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go back and try again!

Damnh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 you really need to practice that launch. With a 2.0 60ft which is doable on street tires you could easily be running low 13's.
