Dave, i dont know if i would have made a 13 the way i tuned and turned up the boost... i should have left the boost alone b/c when i left and when to hop onto the feeway i went WOT and i was a 20psi again with a lot of knock...no way would i have stayed at wot down the track for that one... But if i left the boost alone i would have made a 13 for sure!

Theres always next time.

damn, my next track meet IS next wednesday. I vault and run, so I run my legs, and work my arms too. vaulting is crazy fun btw. This whole time I thought you had an awd e316g and were trying to break into 13's. I didnt know what was wrong with you, ROFL . whats the mods on the fwd laser?

Mods on the Laser: ported EVO 16G, small fmic with 2.5" piping, 660 injectors, custom eprom ecu, ported 2G ex.manifold, ported evo O2 housing, 2.5" dp, 3" catback, stock size tires, and about 100 pounds of weight taken out of the back. It also has a TRE trans with a double syncro second gear and an ACT2100 clutch. A bunch of little stuff, too. I'm running 15psi fo now. The hacked 1G maf is on the edge of being overrun so I can't run much more boost without risking knock. Anyone have a 2G MAF they want to get rid of?

Yeah, I know the 60' time sux, but it was the first time launching since last fall, and I forgot I had the stutterbox set too low. I did a 2.3 60" time on my 3rd run, the car was hooking up good.

I dont think im going to the track next wed either. Im taking the car to fftec to get the clutch master and slave done, along with a new pedal assembly. Then ill be able to shift the car the way i want to and stop ruining my tranny. After that its time for some tuning and the 13's will be all day baby!

Im down to go the wednesday after next for sure... TSTKL, will you be free? How about you Dave? Anybody else down to run Wednesday the 23rd???

Let me know what you guys think.

Danny

yeah its about time, and when i asked paul at newlogics if he wanted to do my clutch pedal assembly, he sounded like he didnt even know what clutch play was....
So the car is going to fftec. I plan on getting some more work done by them and some dyno time/tuning so im going to see how their work is. The only thing is its going to take all day to get the car fixed and im not sure if i should drop it of and get a ride back to SF and then go back or just sit and wait... Is there anything close by thats worthwhile spending some time at? Is bart close? Im kind of torn inbetween coming back and then sitting in traffic all night to get back there or just sitting there with a book for 8 hours...

theres this mexican resturante I always see while driving there and I want to try it SO badly.
Its funny that you say that Paul seemed like he didnt even know what clutch play is, because when he did my clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel install, he put some washers on one of the arms or something to shorten the clutch stroke. I have less grinding into gears since then, and the stroke of my clutch is shorter, and stiffer, but an act 2600 will do that.

Well I hang out there all day by choice since we are all friends, but htey have dvd's playing all the time and I am sure they wouldn't mind if you brought your own to play. they also have a ps2 there so if you have a game you want to bring again I don't think they would mind if you played it. I really don't know though because well being friends with them I get some perks some don't get. There is a bart station about a mile away from the shop, but not to much to really do around that area. They have a movie theatre on the other side of 880 from them but even then that only take about 4 hours out of your day. I would come back to your place just incase somethign goes wrong and it can't get finished that day. As for their quality of work, I am a bit biased but sean is the only person besides myself that I allow to work on my car. If you are going to be at the meet later this month I can show you some of the fabricating sean has done on my car. He is an unbelievable welder and knows his way around a dsm better than people know their way around their own home.

If its teh mexican place right on the corner of central/alvarado then it isn't that great of a place. Maybe i'm spoiled by good mexican food living in redwood cityROFL :D but I didn't find it to be amazing.

Paul probably shimmed your pivot ball.
And your right... its the WED the 22nd not the 23rd....but we do have until nov to hit the track!

I'll ask sean what he has to say about whether i should chill there or not, i see how if your friends with em you can just kick it and walk around like its your second home... i feel like that at a lot of shops, but thats because im in your position, not a first time customer. If he has good welding skills i might have him install my plx m-300 while the car is there...
I think ill just try to drop the car off and get a ride back with a friend, then maybe catch bart back there to pick up the car. Are there any busses that go near fftec from bart or would i have to strike it there...? (1 mile isnt too far for my fat ass... ha!) I live really close to glen park bart station in SF so getting to bart from my house is easy, im just trying to figure out getting to fftec from the fremont station... I dont really want to bug any of my friends to drive me in the evening traffic all the way to fremont. hmmm a movie theatre eh... that can take up some time maybe if the g/f comes with me. I'll have to look into how long sean thinks he'll be working on the car but as of now he told me drop it off at 11 and pick it up at 7.
Maybe i'll just go for a tour at the NUMMI plant! haha! (been there done that)
Let me know what you guys think...

I don't mind missing next week. My car had a funny vibration going down the track in 4th gear and I think it's the clutch starting to slip. So I need to check it out. I could bring the Talon out on the 22nd, I just hope the clutch holds up, it's having issues too.

thats it! we'll be back running 13's with all clutch issues solved on wed the 22nd. I already have it off work and as of right now im planning on going.
Now lets get those dsm's up and running correctly everyone and get to the track and show em what were made of!!!

danny

hmmm...i dunno if im going to be able to make it on wed. I mean i COULD make it, but i didnt have a chance to get my car fixed today because my parts didnt come from dsmotorsports yet. I think im going to have to wait on going to infineon another week. It really depends on how many people go. I could try to hit 13's how my car is, but id just be abusing my trans more and more. I think im just going to wait for the 29th. Let me know if people are willing to go the next week, or if you guys are trying hard to roll on the 22nd.

29th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

29th works for me. I get to try a Scott CFR-1 full carbon racing bike this week as a demo, so I'm gonna ride untill my legs fall off!
I'll bring the Talon out this time and see if I can get into the 11's again. Hope to see you all out there!

awww....not the talon!!! I mean it'll be good to bring it out and i really want to see your car, but now we arent going to have any fun competition to get into the 13's!!! haha...

i hope you can break into 11's again man! and tstkl, maybe me and you can race now! Can you make it on the 29th? my work suspended me for that week so i already know that i'll be able to make it. also i talked to my buddy that used to have a 91 tsi awd, and he sold it and bought a srt 4, and he wants to come the 29th, so hopefully i can show him what a huge mistake he made getting out of dsm's!!
haha

Come on bay area folks! take it off the streets and lets go run at the track,
WEDNESDAY MARCH 29TH, INFINEON RACEWAY!

today I was doing some spirited racing around town and while getting on the freeway hit fuel cut in 3rd gear at 4000 rpms. I did a few pulls to 2nd at 7000 and didn't right before that, so Im going to have to look things over, but its the 18th today isn't it? maybe Ill be able to turn the boost down so Ill stop running at ~95% idc and worrying about things turning for the worst (lean). I was also getting a lot of knock that doesn't normally happen, maybe Its just because I drive the car about once ever two weeks, who knows? I found out I've been bottoming out my clamp on my 3 inch exhaust, so now that thats bent its making some horrible sounds and I have to get that off. took a turn at 30 today and lost traction, my struts are so dead they can't even keep the wheels on the ground going 35-45 mph. it was about 30 degrees too, its not like I was doing donuts at 30, it was your regular run of the mill turn. something I take going 35 in the minivan all the time, with nothing to worry about too. somethings wrong with my suspension, which is why I've been looking at the flt-a2's. my car also wants to die every time I take my foot off the gas while its in nuetral and I let it drop all the way to idle speeds. I've been staring at the oil pressure light at every stop sign all today almost. I think I'm going to replace my turbo compressor outlet gasket since I think I might have blown that. If I can start eliminating some of the sounds my car makes, maybe I can make out what the fainter ones are... right now the sounds my car make are: clamp on exhaust, suspension, and a bunch of other stuff I can't make out.

things I would like to get, but don't have the money for:
dsmlink, to run a better tune, and 1000cc injectors, so my idc will never be that high again
a new o2 housing, so I can turn the boost DOWN
an exhaust manifold, so the leak in my current one doesn't screw with my o2 readings and throw off my tune
a wideband o2 sensor, so I actually know what I'm running at
flta2's, so my tires will be smashed against the road at all times
replace the clamp and look into replacing that gasket.

after all that the car will be in tip top shape and a lot faster too. total comes to about 3300, of which I have none of. after tonight, I don't know if taking it to the track will be a good idea. I do have to drive this car home ya know.

edit: also want to take a look at the clutch shift fork and clutch pedal assembly. what part specifically is the part that breaks/wears down?

just push your clutch in and let it out, if you can lift it up with your toe after you take your foot off then you have play. also you can look if it pushes the clutch switch on its own. My clutch pedal assembly does not even touch the switch!!! (probably why ive been having problems with nlts in dsmlink) If paul shimmed your clutch fork then you are probably good to go. Are you having trouble shifting at all? if not than i wouldnt worry about any of it. Turn the boost down and try to avoid that creep thats upping your idc's... if you are going to pull off the turbo, id suggest porting it to help you with the creep. Once i bought a bullseye ported exhaust housing with a 38mm internal gate for my 16g i said solong to boost creep alltogether.
Man, i wanna go cut my cat off... and make a test pipe...(for track use only of course).
I mean once i get pulled over, ill probably have to go to the state ref no matter what, so why not enjoy having no cat while i can.....(i previously put a 3" cat on my car to try to bandaid boost creep it helped the creep start like 300rpm later, but it still creeped)

anyways.... run your boost off of the wastegate, and just practice launching/shifting and see what your car can do. if you are in the low 13's than running 10lbs will probably put you about where i am...we can have some fun races!

anyone else want to run on the 29th???

danny

I think Im going to make an adapter to eliminate my mbc and see if that helps at all. I dunno if its ### I used too long a spring (I left it completely compressed for the 6 months my car was down and so its shorter, but still a little on the long side) or that I used a 1/16 inch drill bit for my bleeder hold over a 1/32 (no one had one...gdi) or that its creeping, but it just storms up to 20 psi as fast as it can. I looked at the logs and it looks like Im running a little tiny bit richer (looking to see if I have boost leaks) but not enough to mess up the airflow that much. knock was a lot worse but not too bad. before my logs were completely clean with no knock at all until 6000 rpms in high gears. looks like ive got some tuning to do. Im going to try and get 3.5k to throw down on all the stuff I want, then I should be in the low 12's with no problems whatsoever (aka no fuel cut, knock, problems, no ill be in the 12's with no problems, since my driving skill will need to increase quite a bit probably)

good thing is, while driving around my m3 friends, I got quite a lot of (there were three of us in the car btw) HOLY SHIT, THIS CAR PULLS SO HARD!!!!! it actually got annoying, since I wasn't flooring it half the time ROFL , m3's and there 240 stock hp :notgood:

long live :talon: wait,...

Yeah, it would be fun to see who could get a 13 first, but I know my Laser doesn't have any more power in it until I get a 2G maf and new clutch. After that I can guarantee a 13 second run. Besides, the Talon is much more fun at the track. I hope someone brings a video camera so I can see what it looks like when I launch. I'd like to know how much wheelspin I'm getting!

ive been trying to get one of my friends with a video camera to come with me but none of them want to... hmmm... maybe i can borrow a camera from one of them and get one of my friends who will actually enjoy coming to the track and watching to do it...
we'll have to see...ill ask around.

i'll be going with a couple of my friends today... im not gonna race my car but i am gonna video tape. Is anyone else going today???

I think me and my friend might be going, to get some practice before CMI.
Not sure, Possibly though.

next wednesday me and my 240 friend with an sr20det are going. I'll probably show up sin mbc, so ill be looking at 13.8 timeslips hopefully

I look forward to see you all at the track asap. I just bought DSMlink and would like some help with tuning since I'll be installing 650's at the same time. Is there any tricks to getting a decent tune asap or should I just keep with searching around and seeing what everyone else is doing? Anyway I hope to be in the 12's with all the work I've had done as of late.
Hope to meet you all soon at the track.
