Hi, i'm from Indianapolis, Indiana, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good engine and transmission shop around town. I want to make my engine and transmission stable enough to handle a turbocharger, and nitro combination. I will be getting the engine bored out, and new pistons/rods will be installed.

Also, what compression ratio should I try for? I have heard mixed suggestions on wheither or not to go higher ratio, or lower ratio than stock for a turbo/nitro combination.

All suggestions are appreciated

What is Nitro? Are you going to attempt to run Nitro-Methane Fuel like a Top fuel Dragster?

Or did you mean Nitrous but you can't spell it, however you think you are ready to run it. Tisk Tisk.

As for your answer, register on Indystars.org and ask. There are a lot of members in Indy who could suggest a shop. Don't mention the reason though, it's for your own good.

Also for the money you are going to dump into your NT you could build a 1g Turbo car. It would be a much wiser choice, but it's your money.

I agree, you should get a 1g turbo and build that. If you research a lot you will find there is lots of problems trying to turbo a N/T. It can be done but the cost can be crazy. Ive seen people spend thousands turboing there car and only dyno 200whp. Thats what my car puts down and im running 10 psi on stock fuel.

yes i meant nitrous.

... I'm sorry that I sound like a newbie when I post, but I am in the newbie forum.

Thanks for your suggestions, but I really want to build my current car because I like the 2g body style and I got my car for 2000 dollars and it runs good.

If I need to perform an engine swap, I would not like to use the Eclipse 1g motor... I would have to go with the Eclipse 2g GS-T Style motor (or somthing like it). Although I know it sounds silly, I would like to stay away from swapping the motor if at all possible, that is why I am looking for a well known engine shop to do my work so I can have a motor that is stable.

Anyone that has advice please post it, but I don't give a shit if you flame me, so please don't flame.

well heres the deal you may not want to swap the 1g motor in but you will be hard pressed to find a 2g (7bolt) engine for the same price as a 1g (6 bolt) engine and if you do then it will be a matter of time before that crankwalks. i have 2 2nd gen eclipses in my garage right now and they both have the 7 bolt engine in them, one is mine and it's a GST and the other is my buddy's and it's a GSX, and both of these cars are getting the 6 bolt engine swap. Now both of those cars come from the factory with 210hp and if you turbo your 420a engine you will be somewhere around that with alot more money spent. thats my $.02

My reasoning for keeping the 420a is because if I were to do an engine swap I would just end up putting a bigger turbocharger on it.

Then when I decide to put a bigger turbocharger on the 'new' engine, I would have to build that engine as well... and then buy all new parts that would fit my bigger turbocharger.

I figured if I just kept the 420a, build it, and put a big turbocharger to start out with that I could save time and money.

However, if it is almost impossible to make a 420a motor have a good turbo charger (22 psi boost) please let me know because I dont want to spend money building a shit motor.
