I'm thinking about selling my car, How much Should I Ask?

So yeah, I'm thinking about selling my car and either getting a 300zx or paying off some college debt and getting some other project (haven't thought of what yet).

I'll give you a brief history of the car.

I bought the car dead and bought a low milage (30-60k) jdm engine. I put the engine in along with the 16g turbo that came with it. The turbo has NO shaft play whatsoever. When we did the swap we also replaced the clutch, water pump, head gasket and other stuff.

Last week I had a 3 inch turbo back exhaust put on too - ebay stuff but sounds AMAZING.

The important stuff -

The car is a 1996 Eclipse GSX with 121k on the odometer.
It is a manual tranny.
It has a grey leather interior in really good shape (apart from the hatch carpet)
The body is in good shape, but the stock sideskirts were taken off (leaving rivets), and the front bumper is scratched and bondoed up a moderate amount. It has been repainted at one time white with a really cool blue pearl in it.

That's all I can think of - How much should I look for?

Being you have only had the car for a couple months (by looking at your JDM posts) I would imagine pretty close to what other running 2G GSX's go for. Obviously more that what you paid for it since you bought it in a non-running state. You might try looking here in the Classifieds, www.dsmtrader.com or good old autotrader. I would imagine 5-6k or thereabouts.

but yeah, dsmayhem is right...about 5000-6000 is about right, and fair. i'd pay $7k for a MIIIIINT 96.

As for a 300zx...no...just no. I had one before my DSM and sold it because it was a nightmare to maintain. Just imagine a car that breaks as often as the DSM, but costs 10x as much to actually keep up. It was a $40,000 Japanese Supercar, and parts will cost accordingly.

I had from February of 03 to August of 03, and i managed to drop $4000 in repairs just 7 months. Theyre older sports car, and there is no ghetto cheap way to fix them like our DSMs. And, they are 50x harder to work on. Not to mention gas mileage sucks.

Just a heads up from a fellow DSM'er who went through what you are thinking of doing. Ironically, i sold my first DSM (a 98 2g) to buy a Z.

I'd pay about $6k for it MAX. 7k if it was absolutely mint in and out. If it seems a little low, look in my vehicle profile and look at all the mods $9500 gets you WITH 65k miles on the odometer. (subtract the MAF/translator and 1g throttle body; that was my project).

Actually I wouldn't slam the 300zx, You must have had bad luck because mine is a daily driver with almost 200,000 miles on the odometer and I run it to redline all the time. LoL Obviously not the smartest thing but nothing has broke yet and before someone says something smart I have another daily driver so when the 300zx goes I have a back-up. And I've been expecting it to go for a long time but it just won't. LoL Bulletproof bottom-end

Oh and pertaining to your question, I agree with Karbon, anywhere in between 6-7k.

wow, out here there are hardly any for sale...and the ones that are for sale are all up in 8k-9k range. i want one for 6k

well, even though I get frustrated with ALL the little problems from the previous owner... I think I'm going to keep it.

What annoys me most is not being able to fix those things due to lack of cashflow.

I still owe my dad like 1000$ for the engine we put in, so it's like I don't even have the cash really to get a mbc and boost gauge...

Or at least I feel like I don't.

I like driving my car, but it just doesn't feel right, like there's so much more there that I'm missing, ya know?

i wasnt joking, if he sees them for 9500$ around him, then they are selling for 9500$. just because you guys are educated enough to know what you should pay, doesnt mean that rich kid who just got his license knows anything. aim high.....most people dont know anything about crankwalk.

i just paid 11k for a brand new looking, running and smelling 100% stock 98 gsx with 32k miles on it.. sounds like your car could sell for 5-6k or so, though it would be a lot easier to get rid of if you fixed the body trim issues you mentioned
