Im New to DSM's

Hey Guys my name is Eric, i go by Ski though. I am currently and have been living in Okinawa, Japan. My Trans Am GTA was stolen and i figured that since i will be going back to the states in about a year and a half to get a awd car and oddly enough fell in love with the GSX and TSI's. So im currently in the process of buying a 98 GSX 5 Speed with Megan Coil Overs. I have a couple questions though.
1) will a Evo iii turbo and exhaust mani bolt right on a 2g
2) should i use the injectors and fuel pump of an Evo III or an Evo VI
3) and other than a front mount and a BOV is there anything else i should grab, like possible coil packs, or DSMLINK.

First off Welcome Yes the evo 3 turbo will fit on a 2g manifold and get a walbro 255 and bigger injectors 550cc-1000cc injectors but you need ecmlink before you can add injectors. Exhaust, boost gauge, and wideband will do it for you. That should get you around 300whp on pump gas.

Thank you for welcoming me, and thanks, roughly how much is ecmlink? and the car has an Apexi exhaust. im going to rip a turbo off an Evo III tomorrow then, and should i grab the exhaust mani too, as well as the fuel injectors and fuel pump off and Evo VI?

yes you can install the evo VI fuel pump but will need tuning to install the injectors. Ecmlink is about $600 and need a eprom ecu. ECMTuning, Inc.
You also will need a 16g install kit for the 2g to install a 16g turbo. Yes grab the exhaust manifold and the evo 3 o2 is nice to but the angle is different, so if you don't mind cutting the downpipe flange to fit those are nice upgrades especially if you port them.

This is awesome, thank you so much, where can i get a install kit from for a responsible price, and i cant wait to rip these parts off these Evo's tomorrow (they just hit the junk yard for being abandoned). And am i better off just getting a aftermarket Manifold VS porting the EvoIII one later? Sorry i have a lot of questions and i just want a reliable source.

This whole board is a very good source. The biggest thing anyone can say to help you is to read as much as you can. It's not hard to make these cars really quick, but its even easier to royally screw them up with bad decisions and crappy mods. Good luck!

as far as porting the evo3, you can do it, but most people just end up buying the DSM Forced Performance turbo manifold. As Dexter said though, read read read. the more you read, the more you learn and the more you learn, the better build you will have

Believe it or not the past week all i have been doing is reading all of your threads its just i like getting info direct towords me so i can see who is actively helping. i know i need reliability first, all belts, hoses, spark plugs, and vacuum hoses, trans, transfer, diff and oil change as well.i know about the 7 bolt crank walk i just need to watch for it and catch it early.

I'd honestly skip the injectors and fuel pump, or just resell them. The injectors are only 510cc in the Evo 1-4 and 560cc in the 5-9 (IIRC). The 560's can only safely support around 300hp. If you plan to get DSMLink then I'd suggest 1000-1450cc. I don't know the exact specs on the fuel pump, but I'd assume it's similar to the Evo 8 pump which flows less than a Walbro 190. For $100 flat you could have a Walbro 255HP which can easily handle over 500hp. Over 600hp with a simple rewire.

evo 8 ecu will work its great cheap flashable ecu for our cars. Or you can get a black box from a 98,99 eclipse thats flashable too.

Can you explain Flashable to me please? And im guessing a Evo VI wont work then...damn, And also can i use the cams from a EvoIII or Evo VI

Yes evo 9 will work to. By flashable I mean all you have to do is get a cable that allows you to use programs like evo scan to make changes directly and save them to the ecu.

You only need a socket eprom ecu to use ecmlink aka dsmlink with the evo 8 ecu's they are self tunable aka flashable loading tunes to there ecus. Just get the evo 8 or 9 ecu and you will be set.

If the car you are looking at is a 98 it should already have the black box ecu so there shouldnt be any reason to get a new ecu. Just a thought and would save a bunch of money.

So if im gettign a 98 gsx i dont need to have my ecu socketed, and if not is it just plug and play with dsmlink?

Haha im am off my game today. I would pull out the center console and look behind the radio on the 98 eclipse, you should be a black box ecu that is same as evo 8 ecu and is flashable to tune. Most dsmers have to buy one or get ecmlink but with the black box ecu your good to go just need performance parts.

Tactrix cable with a computer but I forgot the program. I have a 98 GSX but I ended up using DSM Link V3 Full version. By far the best decision I've made I would say. Very user friendly and since the ECU I'm using was from a 95 2G all I had to do was change some spark plugs wires over.
