im geting major vibration in my steering wheel at idle

i have a 91 eclipse 1.8 n/t and im geting major vibration in my steering wheel at idle. only at idle. all the help would be great. thanks

Have you taken it to Les Schabs or Big O to have them look at the front end - if you got tie rods, ball joints and related matters that needs replacing?

Motor runs smooth on idle but shakes the steering wheel .... odd.

good grief, that's a high idle.

Unfort, the 1.8L almost needs that idle RPM in Park (yet, that is a bit high though..), for when you dump it in D, the RPM's really drop due to the internal pump kicking in and the vehicle really shakes hard if the RPM's are too low. (which is prob the basis of his topic of "major vibration in the wheel at idle" .. he didn't mention that he had an automatic - we all though he was a 5sp..that clears things up quite a bit...)

Yet, it's an easy fix by adjusting the idle speed screw (one with the spring below the screw - not the other one-that one adjusts the TPS to the throttle butterfly) with it in "D" and the "E-brake" on (or someone in the car holding down the brake...) and get the RPM's down to at least 900RPM, or when the car quits shaking.

Then, the "P" RPM's will be about 1300. One of those things..


But, if he's shaking at 1kRPM, then I would almost suspect an timing issue that needs to be resolved.
