So I have been dealing with this problem for the past few weeks and cannot figure it out. I have a lot of people that are pretty good with cars telling me all of the things that it could be but I can't be too sure with them since they don't know DSM's.
To give a little info:
I have a 90 1g FWD and this car has a few mods.
-Dejon intake
-2g exhaust manifold
-Upper IC piping
When i start the engine and its cold it will start right up no problem and everything is running fine, but if i stop the engine after its warmed up (say go into walmart and come back) and start it back up again it runs fine for a second and when it comes down to idle it starts to run very rough and the check engine light comes on. As long as i don't have to shut the engine off for a few minutes and start it back up again i could drive around for hundreds of miles with no problem.
After testing to see what the problem was, the car kept throwing code 23, which is the cam angle sensor. I purchased another one that was used and it was working fine for awhile. But i still needed to do the timing so I found a friend with a timing light and we set the timing to 7* BTDC. I thought everything would be fine after that but after only a few days it started acting up on me again. I have been told that it could be the mods I have on the car are the problem, but what does not make sense to me is how the car was fine before, but because the cam angle sensor got messed with the car has not been the same.
My questions
- Is this the proper timing for the car with these modifications? If not what should it be?
- Would the modifications have anything to do with this?
- Does anyone have any idea how or why the car would start up and run fine when it is cold and then after its is warmed up, but only act up when it is shut down for awhile then started up warm?
Any advice would be great, thank you so much in advance.
