I think my ignition system went bad on my 1g eclipse gsx. I would like info on the coil packs, and power transister module. Info includes any past experiences and tendencies to fail. Im trying to figure out whether it is my coil packs, transistor, or plug wires because my plug wires are only firing on 2 cylenders. Input is appriciated! :dsm:

If I remember right, there's two coils on your ignition coil. Here is a list of checks straight out of haynes.

I recommend pulling ignition coil out btw, makes it easier.

1. Connect multimeter on 2M ohm resistance scale. One lead onto the #1 connector pin and the other lead onto the body of the coil pack. If youre not sure which pin is #1, point the connector straight at you and orient the "clip" on the top. #1 and is top left, #2 is top right, #3 is bottom. (this assumes you don't have a 90 like I do)
You should get very high or infinite resistance.

2. Set multimeter to lowest scale of resistance and measure resistance between pin 3 and 2, then measure resistance between pin 3 and 1. These resistances should be slightly less than 1 ohm.

3. Now set your multimeter to highest resistance scale again. Put your probes into the first two coil pack posts. (where you plug the spark plug wires). Resistance should be between 10 k ohms and 13 k ohms. Then check the last two coil pack posts, resistance should be between 10 and 13 k again.

If any of these checks fail, you have bad coil.

There's a good possibility your CAS is bad as it tells the coils when to fire. I've seen many cases were this was the problem.

I'd test all the ignition pieces (CAS, Transistor, Coilpack) using an automotive multi-meter and refer to your shop manual/Chiltons for the correct spec.

note the special red marks i made on the pic? 2 coils in the coil pack, each coil goes to 2 spark plugs.
I keyed in on this when you stated your symptoms. You should definately check the coil pack.
