Yes you would need the GST/GSX coil pack. It has two coils but is one coil pack. Here is a diagram, The coil pack is #1 on this diagram.

No problem.

Auto Zone will have cheap aftermarket coil packs but not the OEM Mitsubishi one. I don't have any experience with any besides the Mitsubishi ones to know how long they would last in comparison. The Mitsubishi ones are very good though.

If you want to save money you could get a used one from a junk yard or check out Mitsubishi Graveyard.

Ill have to check around i am going to start with plugs and wires...The car was miss firing on the freeway so i pulled over and turned it off then back on and it was fine no miss fire it only does it every once in a while not all the time so im going to start with wires and plugs unless u guys have another option?

That sounds like a good plan. The link I posted to the wires is from STM, they include a free set of NGK plugs with the wires and shipping is only $2. They are one of the supporting venders here on dsmtuners and a great site!

but i heard its a bi*** to time. i believe you have to set the timing BEFORE you do the coil on's. because there is no place to hook an inductive timing light up to. so keep your old equipment because if you ever want to advance the timing you need them. so i heard

Are you talking about Coil on Plugs? Because nobody else on this thread is.

I didnt know u had to mess with timing to change the coil packs?

Ignore the post by Alexandr. I believe he is referring to a "coil on plug (COP)" setup as opposed to the factory "wasted spark ignition coils" that we are talking about.

You don't have to do anything with the timing. Just unplug and remove the old coil, install the new one and enjoy! The only thing you have to do is make sure you hook up the spark plug wires from the coil pack to the correct cylinders.

If you are facing the engine, cylinder 4 is on your left (pass side) and it goes 4, 3, 2, 1. The coil pack, starting closest to the front of the car, by the valve cover and working towards the firewall its: 4, 1, 2, 3. Just match those up with the spark plug wires.

Hope this helps!
