what is it. and what does it do? and could it be the reason im buring through my coil packs! note i dont have the mounting bracket for it. so its not grounded

Transistors are used to amplify and switch electronic signals. The PTU in our cars provide switches to supply then remove current to the primary ignition circuits and also provides a tachometer signal every time a spark plug fires.

I would say you should try putting a bracket back on it and grounding it for sure and see if that solves the problems your having with burning through coil packs.

My first step would be to verify the voltage output of the transistor and to be sure that it is within spec. The power transistor on my 98 GST isnt mounted either and I havent had any issues thus far. You may want to go ahead and replace your plugs and wires as they are known to cause coil failures due to high resistance.

The mounting bracket for the PT does provide an additional ground (a more heavy duty one than the wire ground) but it also provides a necessary heat sink to engine. Coil brackets also are used as heat sinks.

:hmm: :aha: :D Thanks for clearing that up luv2rallye.:thumb:

My plugs n wire are all new! I drove it 20 miles when I moved. But I'm gonna further test! I just wanted to know what it did as my manual desnt tell me
