GVR-4 Idles, dies w/gas except with clutch depressed

1992 GVR4

-Push clutch in, start the car, idles fine.
-Give it gas/rev it up, car sputters then falls flat then dies.
-Push and hold the clutch in, give it gas/rev it up, engine revs just fine/normal as it should.

Thoughts as to why the car dies when you give it gas without the clutch pressed, but revs normally with it depressed?

Clutch in you are turning fewer components. As rpms drop less momentum to catch
Sounds like you need idle adjustment or there is something wrong with idle control.

When you give it gas there is an increase in RPMs, but if you were to hold the gas pedal at say 25% steady, the RPMs would stumble down and eventually the car will die within a few seconds.

Youve got leaks, bad sensors or something. Some cursory checks are in order. Boost leak check. Check sensors for proper function and adjustmebt. Any recent changes?

No the car doesn't have a cat., 3" exhaust

The car doesn't have the original motor, so there very well could be changes out of the norm. I'll see if I can get a video of how it dies out. Seems/sounds like it would be a vac leak of some kind, but everything seems to be connected as it should based on the Haynes manual for a 1G. No obvious hoses disconnected.

Vac leaks dont have to be from hoses. Did you boost leak test this thing?
