Hi, I've got a little question:

I've got a new clutch from FP.
Should be good for my new EVOIII. I have 40k on that GSX
My car is idling at 800rpms, then when I push the clutch in to put in the first gear, it always dropps to about 700rpms.
I haven't had that problem before with the original clutch.
It just started with changing to an aftermarket clutch.

Is that normal?

thanks

Mike

Did you put in a light flywheel? I have a fidanza and my idle is fine but it jumps from 700ish to 750ish every once and awhile when I push in the clutch. I am not to worried about it, just check your vacuum lines for a leaks somewhere, replace any old hoses. Otherwise I would not worry about it to much.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. The same thing used to happen to me when I dropped a new clutch into my Talon, but I'm not sure what was causing it to do that.

not to lead you on or scare you about a over rated subject, but i remember hearing something about ppl who got crankwalk that those were tell tale signs of clutch doing stuff like that and that aftermarket clutches caused it to walk faster.
( I know very little of crankwalk ) so dont take my word for it, but just something that I thought of that someone told me, maybe you could look into it and hopefully prove me wrong.

I had the same problem. But my clutch wouldnt engage either. Turns out the bell housing some how came loose from the block.

Hi there,
thanks for fast response.

No I didn't put in a lighted fly wheel :( also my Idle is dropping about 150rpms when I push down the clutch, the're not rising.

Also I have noticed another problem.
When I'm driving in 3rd gear and I have to slow down and push the clutch and put it in 2nd gear, when I engage the clutch, the engine begins to stutter, like the rpm's felt to deep or something or it cant grab or something. But after I fully engaged the clutch and afther the stutter, everything sounds fine.

It works when I change from 3rd to 2nd grear and while i'm engaging the clutch I'm giving a little throttle (power) then it works fine. Or when I really shift quik, then it works to.

I've checked it while driving. Rpms still dropping when I push the clutch even if the car is warmed up.
Also I did the left turn thing a coupple of times, but didn't really noticed anything strange.(like clutch is stuck or stays on the floor)

I was in also in my garage and lissened to the engine through the window beside a wall on the left side. I think the ticking is louder than before the new set up. When I push in the clutch it is getting a little bit louder. But not that loud that I would think "oh shit theres defenately something wrong".

So if I would have crankwalk, shoudn't I also have the weard left turn thing?

Thanks

Or is there the possibility that my mechanic did something wrong with my clutch installation?

thanks

That is always a possibility. But its not exactly that hard with teh alignment tool. Maybe he could have got grease on one of the surfaces?

A sign of crankwalk is taking a HARD left turn and the peddle going towards teh floor. Also look at your crank pulley and see if you can see oil leaking out at all.

The chatter could also be the TOB, installed wrong possibly, the pin might have been bent or put in backwards.

Throw out bearing. It goes on the output shaft of the tranny and connects to teh clutch fork

When you push in the clutch it pushes against the fork and pushes the tob towards the clutch assembly. There is a pin that is shaped liek half a moon that holds the fork into place with the TOB. Now if they have the little grooves facing the wrong way, it may be hitting your pressure plate. Not 100% sure, cause well, you cant really see in the tranny without it off.

There is a common problem known as " TOB chatter " Im not sure how you fix it though, could have to get a new TOB, but someone that knows more on the topic could help. If not, when I get back from work I'll search and find the answers. Or you could use the search engine :) LOL

Hi,

thanks a lot for the response.

I just talked to the guy that did the EVOIII and clutch install.
He told me he had the flywheel resurfaced.

could that be a reason?

thanks

It sounds like he didn't step the flywheel properly to fit to the new clutch, I'm not familiar with the FP clutch kits, but with the ACT kits the flywheel has to be stepped to a specific clearance.

Hi,

I have noticed something strange and it scares me! about having CW.
When I go WOT. Sometimes the engine revs uf prette quick, but the car isn't really going forward or gaining speed.
It's a little bit like I rev in neutral.

Strange...

Hi,
great news.
The clutch cut wire was installed but not selected on dsmlink.
I checked it. When it's not selected, Idle is dropping when clutch is pushed.
When I select it, idle isn't dropping when I push the clutch.

So I suggest the other problems I have are related to an inproper clutch install.....
Hopefully no CW

Can anyone tell me what this clutch cut does when its activated? What shift limit should i take, what launch speed and coast FC ajd?

Thanks

Mike_GSX

well when your goin WOT and the cars revving but not morving, which means your clutch is slipping, so a couple possibilities are the mechanic did something wrong in the install, didnt step the flywheel correctly, or the bellhousing may be loose
