i have a 90 laser turbo, and ive posted some threads before, i had a clogged cat and have had problems ever since. right now my car is running good exept if i try and hold a speed it will jerk the car a little. and i got a new muffler and it doesnt seem to be doing that as much but was wondering if you guys could tell me what was going on also it seems to be running rich, and i have idle serge, and the idle if you sit for a minute or two will drop real low and then climb. i think that maybe it is the idle control valve, let me know what you think it is.

After posting in your other post, and reading some of your overheating problems, I am now almost certian that your head gasket is leaking or blown. Like I said do a compression test and post the numbers on here. Or you can take out the plugs and see which plug/(s) look a little different than all of the others, (to see which cylinder is burning some coolent.)

If the compression numbers come out all good then you can start with a few other minor easy fixes. Such as new plugs/wires, new fuel filter, run a boost leak test, with that little jerk their could be a leak close to your intake such as Tb gaskets or intake manifold gasket. Also if you wanted to just put a straight pipe in place of your cat, and see if it runs any better. Anyways their are some things to start/look at.

i already did a compression test when the cat was clogged and it was fine there wasnt a big difference between the cylinders. and i also got a new fuel filter, and i did strait pipe were the cat was, and got a muffler, i was wondering if i need to put a new air filter in it, because i have a hacked air can and the air filter looks a little dirty.

And what did you exactly do to the MAF.

a) take out the lower honeycomb :thumb:
b) take out both honeycombs, top and bottom :notgood:
c) remove the whole under peice :notgood: (If you dont have a AFC)

If you did b or c then that could be a definate possiblity to the car running poorly.

i took out the big piece of honey comb, and i think that was all. but i did that to my car several months ago and drove about six thousand miles or so with no problems, exept idle surge which i already had that before i did anything to the intake. and i was wondering were the best place to get the whole k&n intake from?

Well you are not supposed to remove the top or big honeycomb ever. That is probably the reason why its running like crap and idling like crap. I am not sure if you can put the honeycomb back in, or if you just have to get a new maf. Look at this diagram..... you are only supposed to remove the lower one that is all.

If you want to buy a new intake, just buy a normal K&N filter for your car, and get a dejontool intake pipe, that will work perfect. But first things first get that MAF fixed up.

nevermind i put that down wrong, i removed the smaller kidney shaped one but hte top big one is still there. just like in the picture.

the next things i'm looking at are my isc and i injectors and turbo seals. i know the isc could do it but i dont know how to test it and would a bad injector/ fuel pump do anything?
