I did a lot of research trying to find exactly what to look for in axles. Lots of texts but few pictures. So I am posting this pictures to match some of the information out there.
Here are some pictures for your reference. Not a how to, but a visual reference. Mods- please move if necessary.
Background:
Needed to replace the rear hubs. They ended up seized to them. So Driver's side outer CV came out and got trashed, and the Passenger separated from the inner CV (as you can see in pictures, detached from axle shaft/boot)
Info
These axles are hard to find, and I just took the non-lsd axles from my mechanic (before taking mine out) after searching locally with no luck. Best I could find is upgrade axles for $300 each.
-Passenger side had the longer, double spline end (19 and 25 splines)
-Driver side had the shorter 25 spline end
-For the sake of poking around, I took the longer cv joint into the driver side will not go in even though circlip is out and (at a glance) the rear differential seems to have inner provisions for splines on both sides.
I got used axles from an NON-LSD car, they 'seem' to be the same, and very similar to the driver side axle, until I noticed some subtle differences.
-spacing and length of the stub is different
-inner cv on non-lsd look identical to each other
-size of the inner CV body is slightly different (non-lsd smaller) (79 vs 74mm)
-axle bar thickness is smaller on the non-lsd
-boots have a difference of folds between passenger and driver side on the lsd and non-lsd set. Not that it matters that much, but can make it easier to identify.
Hope this is a good pictorial reference.
