Ideas on how to fix strip threads on fidanza flywheel?

Ok so it's for a 1992 talon tsi

Purchased it used and one thread was stripped. I didn't think it would be a big deal untill I search and may become a balance issue.

I need to put her back together this weekend so the only thing I can get locally is helicoil. I figured I'll helicoil 3 of them(to balance them out. What do you guys think?

Btw what is the thread pitch for the bolt? I've search and can't seem to find it.
Can't really open a helicoil pack and try out one bolt

you would be fine doing just one. don't mess,up two more to attempt to balance out the others.

Pressure plate bolts are M8x1.25 and 16mm long.

I would sooner helicoil the flywheel (it's only torqued 11-15 ft-lb, but it sounds like the previous owner far exceeded that) than leave one out. An added helicoil is less weight than a missing bolt, and lose even more weight drilling out the hole. Ok, maybe not that much, but it closes the gap even further. You just have to make absolute sure that you drill and tap it pretty much perfectly perpendicular to the step surface. In other words, drill it out on a drill press, and tap it properly.

You'll need a 21/64" drill bit if the information I have serves me correctly.

Granted, there are a number of bolts that secure the pressure plate on, but they're all there for a reason. Especially in something like aluminum with steel bolts where heat expansion rates are different and vibration occurs.. blue loctite is good, but not always great.

I mean, how many times do you hear of people running with only 9 head bolts or studs?

I stripped out my flywheel bolts on my fidanza. Thank god the bolts were weaker than the flywheel metal. I still had to get a good tap and chase the threads. Then i got some grade 8 bolts and was good to go

I got some thread locker red would blue be better?

If I remember correctly the flywheel bolts have lock washers on them. You shouldn't need to use any loctite on them. If you feel the need to use it, stick with blue.

I always do 100 ft.lbs. with a dab of red Loctite. This shouldn't change between stock engine, stroker, etc.

As do I.

The FSM may even call for red locktite, I'll check it out. One thing is for sure though, if you use it, make sure you put your drop or two in the crank and not on the bolts themselves.

The OP is talking about the clutch to flywheel bolts, not flywheel to crank bolts.
