Any ideas on how to clean this?

Brake cleaner and a tooth brush or rag first, then if you really want to get picky you can use a buffing wheel on a dremil.

Try scraping the soot off first with the compressor housing up (turbo vertical) so nothing gets in the blades. Then I would spray brake cleaner on a rag and rub more out. Then bust out that toothbrush and more brake cleaner. If you port these they should end up looking really nice, be careful not to get into the turbo blades or the flapper door. On the gasket surfaces use a brown or red roloc pad on a 90 degree air grinder to smooth out the surfaces for better sealing, manifold to turbo, turbo to o2. :talon:

Why just clean it? I would port it out which would get rid of the black soot, and give a better flow of EGs. You may want to have your A/F ratio checked because thats really black, your probably running a bit rich.

Yeah I plan on upgrading the flapper and getting it ported. I just wanted to clean it up before doing so. It was running rich when I got the car, I toned it down a bit but the build up is still there. Will get a good dyno a/f tune when I get it back together. Also have an EGT and a wideband 02 going in, so that should help. Thanks for the info guys.
