I want to ecuflash help?

Have a 97gst and I want to flash my Ecu but don't want to buy a 500$ program or wire. Please help for cheap alts.

$500 program? Ecuflash is about $200 total (if you have a flashable ecu). You need a 98/99 black plastic case ECU-

Flash connector from ECU- $5
Tactrix 2.0 flash cable with mitsu flash connector- $189 from Tactrix.com
Evoscan- Evoscan.com- $25
Ecuflash- Free- openecu.org

Plus if you really want to save money and you're happy keeping the same tune, when you're done, sell the wire and just keep a 1.3 logging cable with evoscan to keep an eye on things.

some 97 ecus can flash, but you have to fab up the reflash adapter. Look up the serial number on your ecu.

Since you don't already have a flashable ECU, a cheaper alternative to the flashable DSM ECU is to convert to an Evo 8 ECU. You would have to swap a few wiring harness pins at the ECU, or buy a patch harness, but the Tactrix 1.3U cable is cheaper than the 2.0 and will flash an Evo 8 ECU as well as allow for faster datalogging. Also, there is way more support for that ECU over on evolutionm and Tephra doesn't charge for his custom coded features.

So it ends up being:
1.3U cable and EvoScan = $157
Evo 8 ECU = <$150
Download ECUFlash for free

It's a bit pricey and not totally necessary, but I also sprung for the optional patch harness when I did mine.

Just make sure it's one that has a reflash connector and a limitless serial number, the $20-30 eBay vag-com cables can't be made to work with the newer versions of ECUFlash.

I would agree with you except good luck finding an evo8 ecu for that price. And if you do please point me in that direction.

I stand corrected. When I bought mine, they were going for around $100-120. I think I paid $130 shipped. Looks like I made a good investment with the prices now.

I am also going the ecuflash route on my 95 AWD talon.
I've been meaning to do it for a while; I already got a 98-99 flashable ECU, Evoscan, and a 1.3 Ebay cable to log. I know I need the 2.0 tactrix cable to reflash, and some connectors/ adapters since my car is a 95. but I'm having trouble choosing where to buy the cable.

At Evoscan.com they call it "Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 Universal USB Cable" at 237.00 with full set of mitsu & Subaru reflash connectors (which I don't need). At Tactrix.com they call it "tactrix open port 2.0" and sells for 169.00. Does the cheaper one include the cable itself? It only shows a fancy OBDII connector on the pic. (No cable)
Also the "Reflash connectors" look diff. on both sites, anything diff. other than price?
Is there anything else I need (other than ECUFlash) to get this done?

169 is just the 2.0 cable. You will need the 11 dollar or 10 dollar reflash which puts it to 180ish!
