so about 3 weeks ago, i bought my first dsm... it blew up the night i got it. WTF :( so i tried to get a jdm longblock, but I'm sick of looking for one; I'm rebuilding my motor. keep in mind I'm not trying to make a track beast... i just want a reliable daily driver with some balls.

the motor has been rebuilt once. i guess have all this shit: (copied & pasted)

-big-hole lifters(no tapping)
-EVO3cams
-95+ceramic coated 8.5to1 comp.pistons
-1stgen big-rods
-about 20k on a BRAND-NEW(not reman)OE AWD-transmission from the dealer
-new master and slave cyl.
-14b turbo
-Walbro 255lph fuelpump
-RC550cc injectors
-front-end converted to non-pop up headlights w/new 92style headlights
-clear corner lenes
-94style front bumper
-all lights work
-93style taillights-working
-Triple guage-pod mounted on the pillar w/working Autometer silver-face Boost,A/F (and a EGT guage that currently isn't hooked up)
-center vent holds water-temp and oil-pressure (oil pressure guage is not hooked up currently)
-Greddy Type-R BOV
-Greddy Turbo Timer
-replaced the radiator
-replace headgasket
-replaced valve stem seals
-3" GM MAF
-MAF translator
-Apexi S-AFC fuel-controller
-FMIC w/ hard pipes
-Dejon Tool upper IC pipe
-2.5" exhaust, 2.5" downpipe
-dumped O2 housing
-generic MBC
-ACT 2100 clutch
-ACT flywheel
-dejon tool intake w/ k&n filter
-adjustable fuel pressure regulator

but anyway, to my question(s)...

should i rebuild it, or stick it out and try and get a red top?

if i rebuild it, how much should i look to spend on it if i do it myself & how much if i have someone do it?

if i rebuild it, should i reuse the rods and pistons? or upgrade? (obviously replace the bearings, rings, timing belt, oil pump, water pump etc...)

how easy is taking out the motor & putting it back in? I'm a Honda guy at heart, and have done a few swaps, so I'm not a complete retard...

thanks

Paul

if you spun a rod bearing usually you will reed to get the rod resized and get the crank regorund, or you might have to replace both, depending on the severity of it, also sonce you already have that much internal motor work done i'd rebuild it. your looking at roughly 5 to 600 bucks if you need a new crank and rod plus all other necessary gaskets etc.

all you need really is new bearings and a new crank if the old one is scored too deeply. 1g big rods and 2g pistons are a good combo for a cheap built motor that is looking for 25psi fun(given the right tuning)

so basically just throw new rings, and bearings (and maybe a new crank) in it and let it rock?

how much would it be if i paid someone to rebuild it? i just don't feel like messing with it.

If you want cheap and quick check the crank, new bearings, and let it go, no rings unless you hone, but you run the risk of doing it again shortly down the road. If you don't want to mess with it, don't. But with mine, I blueprinted the engine had the machining work done and rebuilt. Takes more time but guaranteed to last. :thumb: Also you might want to have the rods and crank crack inspected.

Well I took the motor out of my car last week and the easiest way to do I found would be to drop it, do to the cramped engine bay pulling it would make you run into clearness problems ( I pulled my engine and it took 2 times longer then just dropping it ). And if you do drop it, drop the tranny with it cause it is just that much less work you have to do to get it out of the engine bay. Other then that it is pretty easy just mark your bolt and lines and your wiring harness is easy cuase the clips can only plug into one place.

I just used My 3 ton hoist with a 2 ton balancer and it came right out FULLY together. Takes some practice but it does get easier with time.

I hear yeah, When I dropped it back into the engine bay it was easy but I took it out i took it engine first then the tranny. MAJOR waste of time. Either drop'em together or pull'em together. The 1G engine bay maybe a little bigger then the 2G. :thumb:
