Okay guys i've been looking around tech to find the answer... BUT NO luck. I'm gonna rebuild my engine cause of a bad valve and i want to know if i should go all motor/nitrous OR turbo? question is whats the max horse power i can get outta my 420A??? thanks fellas!

Firstly, check out the VFAQ's (I know that's a d*** answer, but they do hold alot of info)

Secondly, if you are gonna build that motor, with forged internals, it will hold up to anything a 4g63 can. They are both 2.0L DOHC motors, with potential to the max......Start with looking at a turbo kit made for your motor ( Hahn Racecraft - Automotive Turbosystems ) You will come into traction issues in boost with FWD, so before sinking alot of money into it, you may want to look into AWD versions (no offense to anyone, I promise)......The 420A is very reliable (I know), but you have to put the $ up to make it right......And I'm sure everyone agrees, it's an expensive upgrade (Turbo). Worth it - yes, by all means........F*** nitrous, boost is all you need. And as far as horsepower goes, check out this page: DSM Dyno Challenge - Highest Horsepower
And find your motor/set-up.....and compare..... Hope I helped alittle. DSM's are a learning curve that's for sure.

I dont think you will ever see that without a power adder sorry. Bullet has the fastest N/T to date and he will tell you as well that unless your 100% committed and have the income to do so that this isnt the best route. I believe he is closing on the 175-180hp mark if im not mistaken. Check his profile he will be alot of help.

And I wouldnt say that the 420s are as capable for the money as a 4g63. But lets not compare apples to oranges ;)

spray on a dd is never a good thing unless u do a really small shot, your motor can not handle it.

Not possible on an NA 420a. It's a 2L, those generally have less than 200hp unless you are tuned with every bolt on you can get.
I would really say a forged 420a with N2O would be your best bet, give it a good rebuild and put on a 100shot, tune it and see how you like it.

Turbo's cost quite a bit, sure, they are very worth it. N2O is $4-800, but you keep your drivability you have now. No messy tune or tons of extra crap you have to put under the hood with a boosted setup.

First you asked spray or turbo now you don't want a turbo. Spray will only last until the bottle is empty. I say sell your car and get a turbo car then a couple upgrades and you should have 250 to 300 hp.

The question was whats the most HP i can get if i do a full build all motor? I plan on boreing over .20 with 10.10:1 wiseco pistons and eagle rods! what kinda HP am i gonna get with those? whats my stock compression now? and i am doing FULL build starting with the block and going up!

+1 on sell the car and find a 4g63T.....I'm sorry to say that, but it's what I've learned after owning a 420A myself......I'm very close to 300 WHP right now, with my TSi AWD...(Specs are in profile) it's not an easy or in-expensive trip to that kind of power even with the 4G63T......You have too many hopes and dreams, sorry :( In time, if you are a true DSM'er you will find your goal, it just isn't now. One of these days tho :hellyeah:

I dont want to sell my n/t! i plan on getting a gsx this winter!!!!!! i just want to know what is the most HP i can get outta my 420a by building it up? so i know if its worth it for me to do so!!!!!!! thanx

go to member bullettdsm and look at his profile he has 212 hp. He is the only 420 on the dyno list here on this site without a turbo upgrade. I went to members on the the top of the page then went too dyno challenge then 420 cars their people on this site has there hp numbers. check it out

sorry to tell you bad news but turbo is the way too go. It is not worth to rebuild it unless you want to keep it forever and use it as a dd, not too a hp

I don't know were probably on this site somewhere or people are always parting out cars on here. And the internals I would but don't think you need it for 250-300hp but if you have the time and money why not. then you don't have too worry about it. but a stock rebuild would probably be good enough for the hp you want. But when you get to thos numbers you are going to want more, so I would do the internals

so what i've learned so far is 140hp is stock and you cant make 250 hp with upgraded internals and no turbo? So obviously i'm gonna be spending at least 3 grand more to make an extra 100hp from stock! what tips can u give to make 200 without turbo?

so if i go turbo dont i have to build the internals any ways? and what kit out there can i get to start the build and whats the cost?

4G63T has stronger internals than the 420a and is built to handle boost and higher horsepower. If you search through the site you will see a lot of members don't touch the internals of the 4G63T and are reaching 350+whp with upgraded turbo and other supporting mods. Keep your n/t as a daily driver, and since you said you're going to get a GSX you should wait and mod the GSX later. Looks like you are leaning strongly to building your n/a, so I suggest posting in the 420a section of this site to get more help.

Im on stock block/head studs and a 16g.. 12.60s at damn near 110mph... Im not bragging im just saying i haven't touched this block. The 4g63 with a proper tune will hold alot..

Believe me i know a guy with a fully built 420a.. JE 8.8:1, eagle rods, built head, big 50 trim.. He hates it because tuning sucks for it.. He is trying to sell it for a stock gsx.. Believe me i was in the same boat you were the summer of 07 and all my freinds said JUST BUY THE TURBO MODEL.. So i sold my esi for 3k and bought my GSX... I could never be happier.. Believe me the stock 4g63 with SIMPLE bolt ons will be way faster than that 420a...

No reports of bench racing...? Seriously folks?
