2G I need opinions, pull engine to rebuild?

Okay so I bought a 95 awd tsi from my cousin for 1500 he dropped a shit ton of money into the car then spun a rod bearing replaced them all then spun one again. So now I have the car and my fri no Michael had a 7 bolt block with NA pistons and a brand new crank and bearings. i plan on using the old motor I was just going to drop the oil pan and switch the cranks but do you think I should pull the motor or not I've never pulled a 4g63 before
 
I work on engines all the time I work at a race shop I've just never worked on a 4g63
These motors are easy to work on but at the same time not so much. Everything comes apart easy and is easy to access, but they're picky little bastards so you better have all your tolerances and torque specs just so. Pull it out and inspect everything. You'll thank yourself later. Its not that hard to pull with a hoist. A lot of guys pull the trans with it as 1 unit and just unbolt it on the bench and its done.
 
Oh and a trick with the tcase if you don't feel like draining it is undo the 5 bolts and stick a jack under the head of it. Pry it off the dowels and lower it while keeping the tail and driveshaft up high. Then just unplug the shaft and set the tcase down on a wood block to keep the tail in the air. No draining expensive fluid and no/minimal spillage.
 
I would also say pull it. If you have a rod bearing that keeps spinning your gonna wanna check the rod to make sure its not out of spec. I had an issue similar to this in a diff motor not a 4g63 however everyone told me the crank is the problem the rods wont be out of round... needless to say they were all wrong.. ended up having to pull it all apart anyway and it cost me twice for bearings and such..
 
There is a reason it keeps spinning bearings. Throwing New bearings at it and hoping for the best is not a plan for a long lasting engine. Pull it, inspect it, and address the issues. Check clearances, crank end play, evidence of damage throughout the block and head etc. You need to check the health of the turbo as well, which will likely need a rebuild. Everything oil touches needs to be inspected and replaced as needed.
