I know nothing about turbos but want to know about them

This is the first car I have had that has a turbo on it and I have been looking at upgrading the turbo lately. I have looked around the internet a lot for information, but it is all over the place and I am having trouble understanding many things about what is said about turbos. I understand the basic's I think, like the compressor wheel and turbine and their purpose, but I don't understand what trim is, or A/R, or what is the purpose of the inductor and exducer?

I was also wondering about some of the Holset turbos that I have seen in the classifieds that don't come with the turbine housing, is there a reason for that? Where would you get a turbine housing to fit a certain manifold? As much information as anyone would be willing to give would be very much appreciated.

as for the holset turbo's without a hotside housing its mainly because there are quite a few choices between them and depends on your HP goal and helps spool characteristics.

Thank you, this was very helpful. I feel like I understand some of the concepts a little better now. :)

Are inducers and exducers measured in mm? I understand that the "R" in A/R ratio stands for radius, but what does the "A" mean or represent? If I am correct, "A" is the length or width of the turbine inlet? R is the radius from center of shaft to center of turbine inlet where "A" was measured?
