I just got my 97 GSX home (after traveling 155 miles) and i pop the hood and the motor is really hot. Is this normal? Or is there somthing i should worry about? I drove 80 MPH the whole way non-stop. Also the BOV is loud, it's stock but still louder than everyone made it to be. All in all i got a good deal the car has 65k miles and the interior is immaculate. But should i be worried about how hot it was after that trip home or is that normal? Thanks.

If you drove it for 2 hours nonstop at 80mph it will be hot. Does your temp gauge work inside? Are you fans coming on? Did you check the coolant?

When you buy a car, it is usually a good thing to "take it easy" till you have done your own tune-up. I wouldn't be "getting on it" until then. ;)

These cars run pretty hot under the hood. The heat sheilds are there for this reason. Most turbo/forced induction cars are like that.

Does your car have an aftermarket air filter (exposed K&N)? I noticed my 2g BOV (black plastic looking thingy) made alot more noise :shhh: after I swaped to a cheap E-bay filter. To check if your BOV is vented or not, see if there is a hose connecting the air intake (accordian looking tube between the air filter box and turbo) to the upper intercooler pipe (leads to the throttle body), if there is a small tube connecting the two together then your not vented. If you were, you'd be more prone to stalling out and running rich. Also the timing belts and balance shaft belts should be changed at 60K and some people would rather take that money it takes for this ($400 and up) and put it toward getting a new car, so watch out OMG! Good luck and great pickup by the way. :thumb: :dsm:

yeah make sure the guy did a timing belt. he prolly skipped it and now it rests on your hands to do this.

you wouldnt want to mod the car then have something as insignificant as a belt break and kill your engine would you?

you have the same miles i have right now, and ill be doing timing belts after i get back from vacation. my freinds eclipse NT is on 130k with original timing, im just waiting for that thing to blow, so i can say "told ya so riceboy".
