That "knife edged crank" looks a lot like a FFWD butcher crank... very cool.
Too bad about the rust, glad to hear you're addressing that right away.

The main differences in his stage 2 and 3 trans are mainly that the stage 3 has a better 3rd and 4th and a stronger 4 spider center diff. What are your horsepower goals for the car?

You guys are right the under on the rear passenger side is really bad but I'm actually doing it right now while I wait for the motor I spend about 3 days on just that one side grinding it all down and I'm welding some sheet metal around the parts that I took off and I m also spraying all of the underside with bed liner shit so I'm actually almost done with that side ... I have 3 more to go :) ... And yes it's a project but I knew what I was getting into I'll post pics soon of what I have done tell me what u guys think ... And for the engine bay that's gonna be done b4 I put the new motor in ... I'm planning on getting a sheps tranny I need help figuring out if I should get stage 2 or 3 please tell me the diffrenence

I admire your dedication sir. I found that exact same problem on my old 95 TSi AWD and that was enough for me to say F this, I'm getting a rust free shell.

My hp goal is around 450 to 500 whp... I see alot of people running around 380 close to 400 whp with sto k tranny that's why I'm confused with the tranny stage 2 cause on their website it says the stage 3 is rated for 400 to 600 but doesn't say any hp rating for for stage 2 and stage 1 is stated it's a though upgrade from stock

These trannies are weak. If you call John at TRE, he will tell you ALL about why these ratings are a little weird to you. Let's just say that Mitsu tests parts with "cycles". I think the stock trans can take several million cycles at stock power levels for a long time. However, at 450whp constantly, the trans only lasts about 45 minutes!

Well I am glad you aren't depressed. BTW, why didn't you by the rear LSD? This car had one with the Viscious LSD. I can tell you the history of this car somewhat.

It was owned before the kid you bought it from by a guy named Hosmer. It had a 6 bolt swap in it. Here is the original FS posting by Hosmer:

1997 Eclipse GSX
135K on the chassis, unknown mileage on the motor but it has been rebuilt.
5 Speed
Tan Leather Interior
Rear LSD (Not all GSXs have the rear LSD, it was an option.)
All power with working factory alarm.
Keyless Entry (OEM)
Gauge cluster surround pod with oil pressure and Wideband O2 gauges.
Boost Gauge

Motor:

6 Bolt Swap (NO CRANK WALK)
ARP Headstuds
Real EVO III 16G Turbo
EVO IX 560cc Injectors
BC 280 cams (Go to the youtube link to hear it idle.)
Aeromotive AFPR
Apexi N1 3" Turboback Exhaust
Balance Shaft Delete Kit
New Timing Belt
New Water Pump
New Alternator
New OEM Head Gasket
All new OEM upper seals/gaskets (from the head gasket up).
Blacktop CAS
Front Mount Intercooler

Some pictures before it's demise:

I was actually talking to him about buying it when this other kid came through with the money. He had it for 3 months and blew the rebuilt motor. Then he parked it where you found it, right by the ocean with all that salt and moisture in the air for 6 months. Which is why you found it in that shape.

I went to see it early last month and decided not worth buying what I call car cancer. Best of luck with it, it use to be such a clean AWD.

i do have the Viscious LSD on it and i will be posting pics of weld too and most of the rust is mainly surface rust except that rear passeger side other then that its still pretty clean underneath

i think he just didnt give a f**k about it but thats all said and done and im gonna bring this car back to life the right way and i know its gonna be alot of work but its not as bad as it seems cause im in any sort of a rush so im taking my time and im going from back to front to make it reall clean and from the pics and in real life here it look 10 times better

Back to the transmission topic, I took mine to TRE, and got a Stage 4 for a good price. John, who works there, is a very cool guy to talk to. I couldn't begin to tell you how intelligent I think he is. You will see what I mean if you talk to him. He will fix you up.

Idk about the turbo yet I will be needing help choosing one too any suggestions ???I'm doing everythin to the motor my machine shop told me I can do 800 hp if I wanted to but my goal is 450 to 500 need help with turbo and trans

I did some research and I might end up getting the percision 6262 turbo I found a few people selling it for 800 what do u guys think about the price and the actual turbo ?

rust is going to happen, but im happy to see your addressing the issue right away. i know too many people that just dont bother to even look for rust until its too late. All in all i think thats a pretty damn clean shell (minus the obvious). Good Luck, cant wait to see it finished.

im running a TRE tranny cant say anything bad about it. if you check out their site they are sellin the stage 4 for 2300 with a good core trade in. not a bad deal. And for your turbo setup, pte6262 is a nice turbo. i would suggest spendin the extra money for the 6262R but thats just my 2 cents

How bad of a lag does the 6262 have and when does it usually spool ?

And usually What hp is it most efficient and a recommended amount of boost
