I just bought a new projcet car

i just bought a 1997 GSX SHell as a project and im planning on building it up i wanted to post the car here for other people to see it and what i m going to do with it who might have some suggestions or they might actually need ned and i can help out ... i will be posting pics up soon

That is a damn nice looking GSX. And you got the best interior color IMO. Like BMPer4mance said. Take your time, do it right, and fix all of the little issues with it, do all maintenance, then start modding. Oh and have fun.

Ii bought my 97 Talon this summer with no engine, I am still working on fixing all of the little issues. I havent even starting buildint the engine yet. Its a big project, but it is a lot of fun also. Enjoy your new toy man.

How many miles on it? and if you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

i paid $ 1700 for it and yes it really is in a great shape it has 137xxx miles but im planning on getting new tranny and enigne ... i have JE pistons, eagle H beam rods, knife edge crank, stage 5 head with hks 272 cams i will be post pics up soon ,,, and its honestly the cleanest gsx i seen like ever and not just cause its mine ...

i will be taking more detailed pics and posting them and yes on the shell itself there are a few things i wanna do to the undercarrage i waana ...i wanna take out one at a time the entire suspension and like sand down the rust and powered coat it black the same material or simiular to like the spray on bed liners and slowly do each side and then entire underneath

I dropped the motor well all the parts to the Machine shop I also picked up a mangus intake manifold I will post pics soon ... I was also wondering if that manifold would fit on my 2g head cause it came of a 1g

It will fit but wont flow correctly. 1g intake ports are alot larger. By the way let me know if you want to sell the manifold.

Sorry OP you got taken for this thing. This is actually the GSX I was talking about in my hangout post about looking at a GSX. The thing is a rust pit. I'd recommend you find a new shell.

Check underneath the sideskirts in the rear quarters, one is completely rusted away. In the engine bay where the intake sits, rust has actually ate away enough to separate the sheet metal from the main frame rail. The engine bay in the back is killed with rust.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Man, that sucks. Yeah, you always want to check under those side skirts. I learned that the hard way too. Which is why I was glad my '97 didnt come with skirts.

I saw this car as well. It is a complete "shell" nightmare. A lot of people get taken by all the fancy things that come with the shell and forget the most important part. Those fancy things won't do you much good if the body falls apart. I'm sorry you fell for this guy's ploy.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh when I read this. Tell me, when you go to the passengers side rear quarter panel and you look where the side skirt curves under the body, tell me how much actual 'body' is missing. Then can I hear how clean it really is?

You guys are right the under on the rear passenger side is really bad but I'm actually doing it right now while I wait for the motor I spend about 3 days on just that one side grinding it all down and I'm welding some sheet metal around the parts that I took off and I m also spraying all of the underside with bed liner shit so I'm actually almost done with that side ... I have 3 more to go ... And yes it's a project but I knew what I was getting into I'll post pics soon of what I have done tell me what u guys think ... And for the engine bay that's gonna be done b4 I put the new motor in ... I'm planning on getting a sheps tranny I need help figuring out if I should get stage 2 or 3 please tell me the diffrenence
