Hey I have a few things I'd like to get some help with. I bought my car pretty recently (97 GST) and I've been debating on whether I want to keep it or get a LS1 again and I've decided I'm going to keep it for a while then sell it and buy a GSX so I want to make sure its running at its best before I start modding it. I'd also like to see if anyone can identify what type of parts are already installed and if a few are working correctly which is why I have take pictures. I can take pictures of anything else if they are needed.

This is my exhaust. I've looked for a brand name on it and I can't seem to find one so I was hoping someone would recognize it and be able to tell me what kind of exhaust I have. It is a 4" tip angled with 3" piping.

That is a exhaust clip. It is just some reving. It also shows the little bit of black smoke that puffs out which I'm not sure is normal or not?

This is a tube I found and I don't know where it goes. It is just dangling in there.

Belt is looking fairly new, but just for my car's safety I always replace the belts when I buy a new car...

Intake looks like an e-bay intake, but maybe I'm wrong...

I was thinking that was a Ebay setup you had on your intake. It looks like a custom job on the exhaust. The only thing that kept me from saying Billy Boat was the fact it looked like there was a resonator on it. Looks like it has good welds tho. Black smoke could just mean it's running rich. Might want to look into that because it could mean other things also. Got a boost gauge or Boost controller yet? Be one of the first things to do, that and a boost leak test. Nice car.

The Intake Hardpiping is a good thing. It's all connected/hooked up fine... but could be done a little cleaner.

Replace that BOV, imo. Also make sure the hose from the BOV is running to the nipple at the front of the Intake Manifold.

The T from the throttle Body, is it plugged? it looks like they may have used to for a boost guage?...That's the only thing I could imagine. If it's going nowhere, then you need to eliminate that T. It's causing a Vaccum/boost leak

The Intake Piping looks like it's lacking the two hoses that run from the breather of the valve cover and also the one from the emissions. Can you confirm that all of the emissions are there? You're in Cali so I take that it passed emissions?

The Belts look fine, but I'd have a Timing Belt job done if you don't know when the last one was done. The last thing you want is that Tbelt snapping/shredding teeth.

Get those issues fixed and then worry about the exhaust.

Thanks for all the help.

So I'm taking it I have a ebay intake and possibly exhaust.

No, I don't have a boost gauge or controller yet. I was planning on buying the AEM Truboost, UEGO, and digital oil pressure.

I also was planning on replacing the BOV to a Greddy RS recirculating.

The "T" is not plugged, it just hangs there open. Should I plug it or just pull off the tube?

My car hasn't been smogged. They told me the intake isn't carb legal so idk if it passes emissions.

I stay in Sacramento and smog will not allow that intake. Get the stock one and hook all the lines needed to it. Use the current blow off valve, delete that T due to vacuum leaks, and go pass smog. Then go for all the mods you want. I just passed smog last week. Then threw all my upgrades back on.

Yup. I know Cali is damned crazy with emissions, but hey.. it happens? Until you get it smogged, go find a stock snorkel intake and you should be okay.

But no, don't use that BOV. It's kind of shot looking. Could be causing a boost leak/Vac Leak. I know for a fact that "T" is causing a huge leak. As said above, you need to just pull that T piece out, throw that hose away, and put a straight Vac Hose Barb in there to connect the two hoses together. Car should run much better after that.

Yeah I hate Cali emissions LOL had issues with my Camaro too and yeah I've been looking on craigslist for a wrecked eclipse or someone just parting one out for the stock intake so I won't have to spend too much.

Yeah, when I was taking the photo's I noticed it looked kinda messed up and it's really loud for a stock BOV I thought it may have been vented but idk how to tell. All the hoses seem to be hooked up right. This is my first boosted car so I'm learning.

I am removing that "T" ASAP probably sometime today. Do you think I will notice a difference? (Performance/Gas Milage or anything)?

+1 on removing the T. For the BOV just jbweld around it for now until you can get a new one. That 2g BOV is a POS and won't hold more than 12psi max.

The guy had the tube holding another tube that didn't go anyhere. The straight through piece was glued to the tube under some tape. So I got all the glue off and used it. It was holding the Black tube to the blue one going no where.

Ebay exhaust
Ebay Intake
Replace the BOV
Remove T and just replace that vac line with a new piece
Belts are fine

So should I replace the intake and exhaust? The exhaust sounds pretty nice and is in great shape. The intake is pretty good too. Would I notice a differance from name brand parts or are these parts at least halfway decent?

I'm probably going to get a bov within the next couple weeks.

I fixed the "T" yesterday. Now it's "-".

Thank you I thought the belts looked good but the guy didn't have receipts for anything.

Your Intake and Exhaust are fine for now. They certainly promote better flow than the stock stuff.

Glad to hear that removing that T helped you out a lot.

The way to tell if your BOV is vented or not is easy. The big port on it should round back down into the intake after the filter. Luckily yours is. That black S shaped tube that runs to the side of the silver intake is the recirc hose. Keep it there.

You won't pass smog or whatever it is out there with that intake. Too shiny for the likes of those hippies. Probably the same for the exhaust, I don't know though. Take them off, install stock parts, get your sticker, and put your stuff back on. Lastly, replace that BOV. The 2G is a piece of crap from all viewpoints. I don't know what kind of work is necessary to stick on a 1G BOV, but it is a good upgrade. No leaky leaky. :D

The T that went nowhere was almost certainly for a boost gauge. That's one of the most common places to tap for it. On one side of the fuel pressure solenoid is a more accurate spot though, not sure if that helps since you want to go electronic for boost control/monitoring.

Thank you that helps out a lot. Perfect explanation. Now I know what I'm looking at LOL.

Yeah I went to the smog shop and the guy told me my intake wasn't carb legal and I would fail if he tried to smog it. He said the exhaust was okay though. I'm also replacing the bov asap.

The info on the boost gauges was helpful. I'm gonna need to know all of this when I buy the parts. Thank you.
