My dsm has been giving me problems ever since I bought her. Maybe it's time to trade her in for something more reliable, like maybe say an RSX-S???

Oh come on, quit whining and bulletproof the bi***. I bought my car in march of 2004 (yep it turned out to be a lemon..shoot me) and ever since its seen 1 1/2 month of road and $7000 in repairs. Currently my car is broke right now again due to a bottom end knock (again!!!..it was active for 2 more days before my last breakdown after spending $1000 to get it running again before this recent nightmare... ) awating a 99 GST 7 bolt motor with 25k original miles on it. Problem after problem, i have stayed beside my car just to get her running again. Look at me, i have every excuse in the world to go sell my car and buy an AWD (which most whiners wouldve done if there FWD was done..not saying your FWD), but do u see me doing it?? Call me crazy or whatever, but i have faith in my DSM man. I am fixing it and keeping it because im not giving up on it. Fix her up, maintain it, and keep it.

If youve already put $$$ in this car, keep it man.

If not, do what u want.

let me make this work better
Acura is honda's american luxury line....in japan there is no acura, ever wonder about the honda nsx??
Lexus is toyota's luxury line
and infinity is nissans luxury line.

get what makes you happy, but I'd sure hate being car poor

The "luxury" is a bit misleading. I prefer rebadge, LOL. You just pay more for the name and a few "luxury" trims so you can feel special. It's pretty much the same car. In Japan,

Acura NSX = Honda NSX
Acura RSX = Honda Integra
Lexus SC300 = Toyota Soarer
Lexus IS 300 = Toyota Altezza. etc..etc..

Same friggin car. :thumb:

If you think the car has more problems thatn it's worth, get rid of it. No one should look down upon you for doing it. Sometimes, people get unlucky and get a problem car. Who knows? The person who had it before you probably beat the shit out of it. Good luck in your new endeavours. ;)

Honestly. i think the probelm is many people that are selling these cars are selling them with underlying problems and know there cars a lemon. Seems like many people that have a turbo model love it and wouldn't sell it w/out a good reason (unless for AWD). The guys that do sell it usually have a good excuse such as family expansion or financial situation. So if someones selling a nice 98 gsx and doesn't have a good reason i would be suspicious as hell. I've had a few 2gs and I have yet to break ONE part (Knock on the biggest wood ever). Just done timing belt and other preventive stuff. I am selling it for AWD in a few months though. If someone wants a reliable dsm let me know. :p

other unrelaible factors include
- The average gsx is subjected to much more then the average honda. You buy a 120 hp honda and chances are it was driven by a 40 yearold and commuted. The average GSX is ran hard weather street or track. Plus, how many times are hondas launched? :D
- How many hondas/other "sport compacts" have ALL three factors
1. Over 100,000 miles
2. Make over 210 horses
3. 8 old years old or older.

These 3 describe almost EVERY turbo DSM.
I would say mitsu is behind the other japanese auto companies in reliability. Seems to be comparable to domestic brand quality.

Well, we certainly heard a lot about Airpopoff's car when it went to a new owner. I have no way of knowing if there was as much to it as was typed.

These are getting to be very old cars, and they weren't being built all that well when they were new. Add into that the customers they're drawing these days ("Will I need to worry about my 140K-mile 420a being unreliable if I turbo it?" "What's the best AWD launch RPM?" "What's the MOST boost I can run on this turtle-snot they're selling us as gasoline?") and you're going to get an equation that solves to heartbreak.

Buhahaha....
right on^^^^

I'm just thinking of all the post i see that say "I have 1,500 dollars, a rubberband, and some paper clips,,, can i run 12's?"

All the preventative maintenence and such I keep up with, its just whenever I fix something, something else comes up. I'm sure you guys know what I am talking about. :D But after a hard long decision I'm gonna keep my baby afterall. But I am in the market for a Honda Crx as my daily driver....can I say 50mpg... :D

everytime somthing happens to me which is like twice every week. I say to myself....god damnit I hate this ####in car then I realize I say oh yea im driving a dsm nvm I love it. actually, I just blew my motor becasue my cooling fans didnt turn on and I poped a hole in the oil pan from all the heat and pressure and I just baught a 1700 dollar built long block... :D

Please help me before I just lose it!! Ok the problem THIS TIME is with my steering....I think. First off my steering seems like it's not as tight as it used to be. The steering wheel has more play in it. When I'm going around a right hand curve ONLY the car wiggles side to side. I can't tell if its coming from the front or the back but, I'm leaning more to the back. All so I just receintly noticed that when i'm sitting still and I turn my wheel (not all the way) and hold it there, the steering wheel shakes. All suspension parts are good and tight, wheels are balanced and alignment is done, all bushings are good. I think that covers it all. Any ideas?

I know how you are about love-hate relationship. But try your tie rods. Other then that, I really dont know.

DAH, after my little run in with my curb and the damage to my lower a-arm (no big deal really) my parents were bitching nonstop for like a good 3 hours about how i should get rid of my "old stupid car" and "your to young to put this type of money into your car, you should think about college and what not" (even though they r paying for college when i go). But they are OBSESSED with me buying an suv or truck, and i must say, i wouldnt mind an suv, because of the roominess (SP?) of them. Perhaps they are right about modding. But what do you "older" tuners think. If you kid was 18, graduating this year, and he was blowing all his money on his car, would you continue to let him/her do so, or tell them to think about that later downt he road?

end rant

Sure, you COULD spend your money on better things, but would it bring as much of a smile to your face?

Food for thought..

PS I'd kick my parents if they told me to get an SUV :p

Yea, my valve stem seals went so my car is blowing blue smoke and my parents are trying to get me to get rid of it. Everytime something happens they want me to get rid of it, but when i got rid of the first one, all they did was bi*** when they had to do paper work for the second one. I can never win with DSM's.

Tell them that your childhood is fadeing fast and this is what you do for fun and personal enjoiment. Or if they would like you could strap down now and concentrate only on life, money, job status and education, but you believe that there is always the rest of your adult life to do that.

Kids will do stupid things when they are young. (this is your main arguement) :thumb:

Remember to look at you mom when you are doing this and ask her if she really wants her little boy growing up that fast. (that should work, Moms are suckers for that one still!)

I love my mom. :)

Sorry for the second post but if you HAVE to get a truck i would suggest Nissan. One of the best made trucks right now. Crash tests prove that.

maybe i just need to get my 6 bolt done and find a 2g shell. And then maybe ill be happy or sumthing.

I'm 19 and I've been putting a good amount of my money in the DSM since I got it. I am now realizing how its not benefitting me in the long run. Save your money, trust me.

THats what im thinking, im just sitting here going "what is the point really of me doing this right now" I think i will take a loss and lose the dsm and get an suv, well maybe, i dont know, ill go flip a quarter or something.

If you can get it fixed for a decent price, keep it.... not sure if your DSM is paid off, but getting an SUV will just be an other expense anyway.

Get it fixed and that's it. Calm down with the modding. There's some people who are always modding their car, and then wonder why they never have much money to do other things.....then there's people who have plans for mods, but do it a bit at a time and spend their money wisely.

The DSM is your hobby and does not come first. I think your parents just think you make the DSM first and more important expenses last.

Agreed, this is what I had to do. It sucks, but I like having a roof over my head :)

DAMM!!! sometimes I just hate my car..... any one else wanna vent .... ( I just found 2+ bent intake valves on my rebuilt head) ......
