OK, I've been thinking of everything and it still isn't fixed! The tie rod ends are good. When i'm sitting still and turn the wheel in either direction I get a clunking sound from the front and the steering wheel shakes. There isn't any fluid leaking but could it still be my whole rack? Power steering fluid level is good too. Any ideas anyone? Please??

For 8 months i have been building and building this money pit.
I go to start it and ..click...click. I replace the starter thinking that is hte problem and then just ..click ...click. I can hear the starter trying to engage but i get nothing.

I'm soo fed up with this thing it makes no sense.

is your cas 180 off, is your power transistor plugged in for the coil pack? Dont give up you will love the rewards!!!!!

Yeah, I would:

1. Turn the motor over by hand to ensure that it's not binding.

2. Check battery. Very likely it's an old battery. I had an old battery and I even tried to jump off my Talon from my other car with 6 foot cables, and it wouldn't turn over due to power loss in the jumper cables.

3. Check starter wires, etc.

4. If not 1-3, now it's time to get mad

i'm using one of those jumper boxes that shops plug into the wall outlet so i know i'm getting enough juice to crank her.

new battery? does it turn over by hand? change the starter

starter has been changed with a 1997 junk yard starteer once already. a brand new one would suck but it coulndt hurt.

i tested the starter with a test light. I went under the car and put it on the constant power wire- the test light shone bright.
I put it on the lil (remote) wire and had my friend turn the key. the test light lit very dimly- it lit every time but it was very dim.

this makes me think it may be the starter soleniod, if i can find it. I here the fusees over by the intake click and click when i turn the key..

the only thing i havent done is turn her over by hand. can anyone tell me how?

i hate that thing. my cams are pointed in the 12:00 position so i took my cas and pointed the fin with the notch in it up as well. I think this is where it is supposed to be.

and i sure hope the transistor is plugged in.

if it is just clicking like that it has to be either:

The battery.

eliminated since i'm using an external power system

The starter.
replaced once, with a junkyard unit (guy at yard said he tested it and it works fine) i wont rule that out though

The wiring between the two.

If u mean testign the wire right on the starter then yes i have done that.

Or a relay.

i'm thinking so..but which one....soooo many.

You have checked all of that?

not yet

Did you check your ground wire like I said earlier?

not yet. i can turn on my headlights, fan and what not so would i need to check my ground?

Because your starter requires ALOT more power then all of those combined. Trust me, go check it. If you don't want to then have fun changing out eleventy billion starters and still have the same problem.

Chekc BOTH grounding cables that run off the battery. Remove them, clean the cable itself and the surface it mounts to.

Did you bench-test the starter? Take it out of the car, put 12v constant to the starter, then bridge it to the solenoid (the "remote" lead you were talking about earlier). If the gear pops out and spins, the starter's at least functional (doesn't necessarily mean it's good, but it means it's working somewhat).
Is the clicking rapid? If it is, my money is on the solenoid being shot.

OMG, you're using a jump pack? those things suck. go spend 50 bucks and get a brand new battery. If the starter just clicks it could only be a few possible problems.

1. bad starter , if the starter clicks, the solenoid is most likely fine.

2. bad battery.

Why would the motor/tranny be binded? highly unlikely. If you have to, turn the motor over by putting a 1/2 wrench/breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley and give it a good wrenchin.

Hooking up power to the starter and watching it go ,"ZING!", doesn't mean jack shit. If it doesn't have the amps, then it doesn't have the power to move the flywheel. Take it to autozone and get a real bench test done. While you are there, you can have your battery load tested for FREE.

Then fix your car in about 2 hours and be happy.

if you know your battery is in good shape, you need to check your ground wires...........hotwheels of turborides
