a little background
98 GSX auto
new trans from mitsu (under 15k on it)
cyclone 6bolt, kiggly adp. etc etc

On a cold start I fire it up and try to back out of my driveway, but it acts like it is in Neutral.
On a cold start I fire it up, let it get up to temp for 5-10 minutes I have reverse!
I back out of my driveway, go into D, drive under 500 feet and while it downshifts to to first it just goes in neutral, but shifter is still in D. (even if i manually go through gears)
I then shut the car off wait 30-60 seconds start it back up and everything is fine (no more downshifting itself to neutral)
I have no OD even hardwiring switch in the on position
Sometimes while sitting on a hill I can feel the car rolling backwards.
Trying to boost/brake only will go to 1400rpm and feels like its going to die

The fluid was changed, along with new filter and new gasket.
the magnets had a little bit of metal shavings on them, but didn't look like a mushroom head

Both my cars are auto. When the filter clogs they go into gear for a short time then its like they are in neutral due to the pump not flowing enough fluid. Ive always just changed the filter and fluid. It has always solved my issues.

Very common when certain seals in the tranny are bad. I've had luck with tranny conditioner that softens the seals and eliminates the "cold" tranny issues.
I know you said the tranny doesn't have much milage on it but sounds to me like it has some issues. Has it been sitting for any period of time?

When I did the fluid change I used royal purple. The mitsu dealer near me didn't even have mitsu ATF and wanted 10$ a quart. Yikes!!!!

It wasn't sitting when I had these issues originally. It's Bern sitting for about a year now and I'm getting ready to drive it again

Can anyone explain the no OD issue?
I was told it could be the input speed sensor located on the trans

I get my filters from Autozone, they work fine. As far as fluid goes the B&M is the only way to go. To the original OP Royal Purple is not a good idea. I fried one of my trans because of running it. Switch to the B&M fluid.

Fluid and filter. That's my first guess as you said after you let it warm up it will go into gear. Have you checked the fluid level?

If that doesn't fix your problem, your probably looking at worn seals.

Well according to mitsu it was a brand new transmission the whole thing dropped in

Fluid level has always been fine. Everytime I checked it.
I will switch over to trick shift.
Not sure were I will get the filter from

Can anyone explain the no overdrive???

To me it sounds like it is low on fluid or has a leak inside. Worry about getting it running right before you go trying to pin not having overdrive as a separate problem.

sometimes when im driving my auto (not cold) if i am going up a hill or even just if i floor the pedal wot it will go into what seems like neutral until i let off for about 4 seconds then it goes into gear. i am assuming i just need to change my fluid and filter. also, i thought dsm auto tranny's werent picky on fluid acording to vfaq. but i dont know

Thanks for your help but it's not low on fluid

What seals? easy seals to change with out dropping the tranny?

There are seals all around the transmission. Not really simple, and would require you to drop the transmission. Did you just get this transmission from someone else?

No the trans came from the mitsu dealer when i took my car there from the warranty

The local satan up there does'nt have much. Always try to get the genuine Mitsu filters whenever you can! ONLY use Atf+4 in your transmission, dont go jacking around with a bunch of hocus-pocus ideas on different "racing" fluids, you will ruin your transmission, also if your filter is clogged then your transmission is junk.

What is the timeline of the trans? When you got it, when you did fluid changes, when it started acting up. I would try new fluid first, but it will take quite a flush to get over to a different fluid completely. Even those machines that flush like 16 quarts through don't get everything. Easiest way would be to drop the pan, drop the filter, and loosen the valve body so everything possible can drain.

I cannot belive that not one person said to run the mitsu diamond fluid. ATF+4 Is the only other fluid we can run in our cars. If you have been running any other fluid it will hurt the life of the trans. Sounds to me like you need another rebuild. I do not think a fluid change at this time will make things better.

Well from what Ive been told the only fluids that are good to run is either the mitsu stuff, or the trickshift. Ive ran the trickshift in my trans for well over 100k!

Any local parts store can get you the filter. Or you can get it from the dealer

Okay time line. Trans blew may 05. Drove fine until engine went in Jan 06. Did 6bolt swap. Trans was okay for a few months. Okay as in didn't have any cold start issues just couldn't boost break.
Drove it a little at the end of 06 with no issues. Then started to have the no od issue and the cold start issues. Did the fluid filter change at the end of 06. And still didn't help. Its been sitting really ever since

I thought about buying new valve bodies and a shift kit, but im not sure if that will fix anything.

Check the fluid in your pan. Does it have metal in it? If so it might be time for a rebuild.

last time i checked there was a little bit of metal shavings on the magnets but it wasn't a lot.
But I am going to get some fluid, filter and gasket and door a fluid change. Ill try to remove that valve bodies while its bolted in the car just to try to get every drop of fluid out of the damn thing.
I wanted to order the IPT reworked valve body with shift kit, but not sure if it will work anything.
I did learn something while watching their video about the shift linkage not being in the proper spot and not have 4th gear. so Ill see once I rip it apart

So even tho it had around 15k on it. It's done for? Rebuild or are there some easy intervals that would fix the problem.
