A/T Top Speed mods? aka:how fast have you been in your auto?

When i first got my car i went 95 in it down some old country road....but my brakes were pretty worn, so i didnt want to push it any farther, in fear of a car driving in front of me.
 
Stock GS-T, (no air filter if that counts...LOL)
137 racing an old school turbo supra, those things are pretty nice.

yes you do need a fmic.

i been 135 in my rag top auto. that was scary.. gets so noisy at those speeds.

my 3rd gear tops out at 121 mph.

i got up to 152 and still climbing good when i let off. :shhh: and thats accully a couple of % low cuz i didn't factor in my larger 18" wheels and tires.
 
Limited to 137. Came up surprisingly quick...not scary, been 167 on a road track in an italian car, which was more of a rush than scary, due to how fast it came up.
 
Speaking for 2.4L GS's.. I had a 96 Spyder 5spd, now have a 97 Spyder GS Auto.. my 5spd was limited to 137.. any further would be in the redline and you really wouldnt wanna do that.. But anyways I had my 5spd to 137.. my auto is very slow after 100.. havent went past 105
 
My GST is german specs, but it governs out at 115mph/ 180 kph. I drive on the autobahn everyday, and thats pretty much the average speed limit. I was wondering how i can get my automatic transmission GST to go a little faster? I'd be happy with the 137 mph governor. I just want somthing more so I don't govern out at cruising speeds. I guess I have pretty good tires, because I never feel the car drift or anything like that when i'm going over 100+ mph. :dsm: :confused: :dsm: oh i forgot...i have a 96 GST

:thumb:Interesting question, kinda of the same spirit as my original one to start this thread, actually. I was always under the impression that the mods we do to our cars are mostly "quickness" (and handling) mods rather than speed mods. Whether we've got our stock pinwheels or a 20G with a 4'' cutout shouldn't change top speed... should it? Thru this post I'm seeing here a couple guys hitting 165-170 on their cars, while it seems everyone else is at 135-140 (by the way GSTGerman, looks like 115 is definitely too low, so fear not! there's gotta be a happy electrical/computer solution for you)

How did you 160 guys manage that?

Ideally, a 150HP N/A OMG and 650HP demon :mad: at the same RPM are going to be going the same speed, one's just going to get there a HECK of a lot quicker. That's why this Q is in the AT section... because regardless of mods and tuning, it seems to me the only way to go *faster* would be to build your engine to reach a higher redline (without going BOOOOM!!), or have your wheels spinning at a faster rate at a given RPM . . . aka transmission.

It's so easy to drop a couple teeth with bikes... $40. And only a little harder to go taller or shorter on a gearing. Are our AT cars truly limited to our OD ratio?

ive hit abt. 115-120 passing a semi in the pouring rain around a curve...i was stupid...

dont go fast on stock tires...they suck, once you get past 95 the car starts jumping and shaking...it sucks...and my wiper blades start smacking the windshield...its not fun when youre going that fast and your car starts making noises OMG

I've noticed that if you change your tires to ZR rated tires, it helps out alot with your handling, and as far as wiper blades go, you could get these things that I have on my DSM. They are attachments that go on your wiper blades (they look like fins). They add weight and hold your blades down to the windshield by the air pushing on it. They work great.

So does anyone know of a mod I can do to get rid of my 115mph governor? Does anyone know why I govern out at that speed? Is it my ecu? Should I get an EPROM? Help!!!
 
I just hit 160MPH at 6500RPM and i let off because my EGTs were climbing just past 900C. I still had room for more if I get the FMIC and the bigger injectors I'll be able to do it without risking blowing up my engine. I'm starting to think i won't get any limiter until i hit 7000RPMs.

doesnt look like anyone is understanding what ricky is saying. hope the following proves to be usefull for you guy. few nights ago im on i-95 with a few buds (05 srt-4, and a turbo'd civic si) we get it started from a 60drop, srt jumps out about 3/4car on the civic and i. by 80 ive already got the srt at my rear quarter and creeping away. by 110 the civic and i have about 1 1/2 cars on the srt and im about a bumper ahead, so we stay on it out of no where the rev limiter bounces and i spit a flame out of the exhaust as the civic passed by me like im not moving i look down at the cluster 137mph@7100rpm ive topped out completely. that should be ur top speed answer ricky. now what everyone else in this thread is saying (ive got this power mod and i can do this and that, etc..) all; he's asking for is gearing info. for example a 200whp and a 700whp with identical gearing can both only go the same top speed. i guess ur looking into makin 4th a little longer...
i know the feeling im interested in doing the same, but all the gears as i dont want my 3-4 shift dropping me too low in the powerband, nor do i want to hurt acceleration in trade for top speed. im yet to find an aftermarket gear set for any autodsm, but feel free to pm if u guys know of one...btw...i had asked ipt about it, john hadnt heard of anyone producing one, and im figuring if he doesnt know it, no one else will either
 
coming down I95 in virginia havent been able to break past 120.. once it gets close to that speed it slows down( like a a prepay pump) LOL.

highway gas mileage is pretty good, but other than on long trips my mileage sucks ass.. how can i help that... new injectors/fuelpump..etc..
 
Highest I've been able to hit was around 145-150. Took me about 3 miles to get up that fast and I'm not sure if it's an accurate speed or not. My speedometer doesn't work and I can't exactly figure out the problem. I bought the car and havn't touched the motor yet so I'm not sure what's been done to it exactly. But anyway, my friend and I were wanting to see who's car was faster, his acura 3.2 or my Talon so we just went and went and went. He said his rev kicked on at 140 and I passed him going around 5-10 mph faster than him so that's the best guess I have. Doesn't sound right to me, but there's no way for me to tell :(
 
hit 137 in my 91 gst auto but ran out of road. fun going fast

mee too and the road was a little hilly and i went over the biggest one ( maybe 3 ft above what i was at before) and my butt lifted off the seat...it was awesome!
 
137 stock turbo and a couple of bolt ons... with my new setup ive hit 145
 
only 126 cause the rear window wiper flipped off the window so i let off
 
I drive a 93 Talon ES auto, and completely stock i hit 115 then i had to brake for a turn. But that was just to see wat it could do, i'll never do it again.. :talon:
 
Hit 160mph in my 95 GSX A/T. I guess that's pretty good with just intake, exhaust, boost controller and S-afc for supporting power mods.
 
I have hit 120mph twice. Once while racing a nonturbo 2g with a beautiful girl in the drivers seat, yeah, I spanked her. The second time was racing an rx-7, I will let everyone guess what happened with that one. I could have gone faster than 120, but 120 was scary enough for me. This was all done on a 1992 AWD Talon stock except for a GReddy Type-S BOV. :talon:
 
i hit 145 with stock turbo and a catback-bov-intake-but now i got 16g and boost controller but a blown tranny :cry:
 
Well, not a 1/4 mile time, but racing my friend in an impala I got mine up to about 130-140, the speedometer quit gettin up at about 120 but I kept pickin up speed. His govener kicked in at 120 and I blew past him. I dont know if I could have gone faster, but if anyone knows 71 south near cincinnati, I figured I would be happy with that for now. :thumb:
