I completed the HID retro!

Go with an OEM retrofit over an HID kit. OEM HIDs use either a D2S (projector) or D2R (reflector) bulb and use housings specifically designed for the bulb/filiment/and light output. I've done both and there is a world of difference with the OEM retrofit.

Find yourself a set of HID projectors off of a car that came with them, get a set of D2S capsules, and a set of ballasts to power them.

Can't you just get the projector from an Audi, Bmw, etc and put an H.I.D. kit in them? What are the capsules?

I guess you would have to be more specific on what 'HID KIT' you are talking about. Most of the kits sold on eBay are set-up for common halogen bulb sizes, i.e. 9006,9005, h1, h3, etc. OEM projectors (BMW, Audi, Merc, EVO, etc) are all set up for a specific Phillips/Osram D2S bulb. If you can find a kit with ballasts and D2S capsules (bulbs), then you should be good. Otherwise you can pick up the bulbs for about $50 and a set of ballasts for around $150.

I have to agree here. If you want the quality you are seeing here from the guys who did a retrofit, then you need to get the right parts. As far as color goes, 4300 is nearly pure white, while 6000 gives you a nice blue cutoff, and higher is more purple. The higher you go the less light you are putting on the road ultimately.
-edit-
Oh and as far as HID and halos (angel eyes) you can have both. At least in my case, the halos were part of the headlight housing, not the projector. Although you will not see the halos with the HID on.

Very nice. You seem to have the same headlights (or very similar) to mine. The HID's are night and day, no?

These are the ones that I have. What do you mean by night and day?

I meant that the difference between halogen and HID is night and day. Yellow and dull versus white(blueish) and bright. At least that has been my experience.

Oh...Yeah the difference is definitely night and day. Next to my VIS carbon fiber hood this would be the best non-performance mod I've ever done. I would recommend everybody to do it if you really wanna see at night.:D

ok heres a better question... what aftermarket headlights work with HID replacement kits like the ones found on Ebay???

^As we said before, those eBay kits are made to bolt into halogen housings i.e. 9006,9005, h1, h3.

If you MUST have one of those kits, then most of the aftermarket eBay projectors run off of H3 low beams. The APC dual projectors run off of stock 9005/9006 low beams.

Keep in mind all of those housings were designed for the light characteristics of its respective halogen bulb, not an HID bulb. Alot of work goes into designing and tweaking projector bowl and lens design to maximize light output and keep glare down.

I'm telling you from experience, I've had the 9006 low beam HID kit off of eBay and it wasn't worth it. I tried the H3 HID kit with projectors with the same dismal results. 3rd time's a charm and I did an OEM retro and can say all the work put into it is way worth it.

ok thanks, this makes perfect sense. NOw... is there a how to on a OEM retrofit? the previous link doesn't work.
