2G I broke a bolt off in the compressor...

drill it and use an extractor. I would use a drill guide so the bit stays in the middle of the broken bolt shaft. if that doesn't work use a bit the size of the hole and use a tap to rethread. you may need to use a slightly bigger bolt. or you can just delete A/C all together. hope this helps.

pictures would help
also for a penetrant oil use synthetic atf and acetone 50/50 in a bottle mix well and let it sit on bolt(i use a small oil squirt can) i have removed too many to count
how much of the bolt is sticking out?
pics would help alot-if you have no acces to a welder can you try and borrow one?

If you don't want to go the route of an extractor, and there's a good chunk of bolt exposed, spray some penetrating oil in the threaded area and grab it with some heavy duty vice grips. Secure the compressor in a vice with cardboard or rags to prevent scratches and gouges, and try to loosen it.

Left handed drill bits and bolt extractors. Soak broken bolt in pb blaster first

Again these are drill bits that drill in going left to make the hole, and loosen the bolt as the hole is made. Half the time I can just get the bolt out with that drill bit. The extractor turns left and goes into the remnants and gets tighter as it's screwed in and grabs the remaining bolt to pull it out

I used to use ^^^those damn things^^^ almost daily in the Army on helicopters. I hated broken/stripped bolts and screws so much..

Drives me insane to see broken or missing studs on a cylinder head.

There are low profile angled drill head attachments, makes it easy to get a drill bit in there

agree left hand drill bits

but best by far penetrnt is atf & acetone but that mix is not prefered in aviation
next best Kroil
Next liquid wrench
next pb blaster

this is not just my opinon but also test by many others

The best choice imo is using a welder. If this isnt an option the best you can do is a bolt extractor. The key is buying yourself a good center punch , not harbor fraud type. Spend 20 bucks on a quality tool. Depending on how the bolt snapped , take a dremel and flatten out the end of the bolt and then and only then center punch a hole. The rest is obvious......and a pain in the f***in ass.

Would a viable option be punching a dent in the bolt and drilling it out with drill bits if I dont have a bolt extractor?

Don't drill out the bolt or use an easy out unless you have to. An easy out's design is for a broken bolt that its protruding out of a threaded hole, it has been done and yes you can use it on a flush broken bolt but as an easy out tightens into the broken bolt, therefore it expands the broken bolt inside the threaded hole putting it in a bind and you can break the easy out in the flush broken bolt. at that point you are Fk'd. i would get ahold of a welder, preferably a tig welder. weld a thin flat washer onto the flush broken bolt then weld a nut onto the washer and then back out the broken bolt with a box end wrench.
