yea thats what i said.

this was said by someone that tried to tell me our cars were never made in japan and i cant possibly have a motor from japan when i rebuilt it...

This bit is true. Only made in the US, and some parts of Europe has them too. None built in Japan though.

Edit: dammit, just HAD to answer the door and post too late :p

The JDM motor is pretty much the exact same thing as the motors made in the US, besides the intake manifold. I have heard of some coming with 510cc injectors also those would be the only differences to my knowledge.

If you want different hardware for your valve cover check it out.

STM STAINLESS ALLEN CAP VALVE COVER BOLT KIT (90-99 DSM)
Those bolts will not work on the Hyundai VC. The heads will go clear through the holes as they are much larger than the Mits/Diamond Star type.

That cover requires something like this: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/387318-hyundai-valve-cover-info.html

when i bought my car it had a cracked block and tranny problems. so i bought a brand new motor and tranny from the factory and im pretty sure it came from the factory in japan cause everything was in japanese, but i may be wrong. it was a complete motor and tranny to put in and go. now the motor and tranny have maybe 35k on them.

:ohdamn: Thanks for the info on the hardware, I did not know that and I have a Hyundai valve cover in my garage collecting dust I guess I should have taken a look at it. Glad I got corrected by a WI member :thumb:
No problem. Funny, my Hyundai cam cover is under my work table collecting dust. It's waiting for a pair of #8 fittings and powdercoating. Or hydrodip. And bolts...

I'm throwing a stock-style Hyundai VC on my DSM (once the guy I'm buying it from can track it down) just so I can BS my not-too-smart buddy and convince him I swapped a Hyundai motor in.

It's a good conversation piece.

ROFL

When I say made in the US, I mean the exterior shell, and interior parts. 1G-2G Eclipse's did not exist in Japan. Just like the EVO I - VI did not exist here (some few VII's were available here)

I heard something about there motor being a 1.8 but I don't know if this is true so yeah some ppl I know swap them in so they don't get crankwalk but other then that its just for laughs

There are 2 different types of the Hyundai VC. One is the stock style that says "HYUNDAI" on the top and "DOHC 16valve" on the bottom it is silver in color (like the stock 1g). The other type is black in color, shaved on the top and just says "DOHC 16valve" on the bottom. This VC needs longer bolts to be used on a DSM. Also some of the hyundai cars use a stud/nut combo instead of the traditional bolts.. The shaved top VC is almost prone to cracking which makes it not a totally useless mod..

Not sure I understand this quote. Are you saying that shaving a stock DSM V.C. is prone to cracking therefore the shaved Hyundai unit is preferable?
