Hx40 with paper ID

Hey all,

I'm looking to get an Hx40 and found one locally that has a paper tag ID on the compressor housing instead of the the usual metal riveted one.
part number# 404 6104

Any thoughts

Ive seen them with a sticker over the metal tag, never just paper though. Justin will chime in

yeah, it has the "holset" cast on the compressor housing.

So I went over to the dudes place and checked it again, lifted the sticker and it has the metal tag that says HX40. 7 blade compressor and 10 blade turbine wheel.

The HX40 comes with a 10 blade or 12 blade turbine wheel. I'm thinking the 10 blade will spool faster...but not sure.

We have nobody who has run the 10 and 12 blade turbines back-to-back in otherwise equally-equipped turbos to know which performs better.

History has told us, however, that less turbine blades on equally-spec'd wheels will generally result in higher flow and more lag because there are less blades there for the exhaust flow to grab hold of. Larger spacing between the blades = less backpressure, so the air escapes quicker.

I've seen where guys have reported the exact opposite with the HX40, but I just don't see it being true.

Thats what I was thinking, less blade more flow especially the on the top end.
