So I had an HX35 sitting around all summer that came to me with oil dripping out of both the compressor housing and turbine housing, so I set it aside and went another route. Just for fun and because its been raining for months now I decided to rebuild it.

Got it apart, and it was nasty. The compressor cover was caked on the inside with a black layer of goo, and the chra was pretty rusty. There wasn't any shaft play though, and the thrust plate and bearings looked ok to me, the shaft wasn't too coked up either.

So I cleaned everything up as well as I could, got a kit from mellet for the hx35/40, and started putting things back together. I ran into a problem almost immediately...

Journal bearings and clips are in place,
When I try and fit the heatshield, turbine wheel, and shaft back into the chra, instead of compressing the turbine shaft oil seal, it chews it up. The first time with the new seal, I figured I was pressing too hard, but every video I've watched shows a guy tapping it in with a rubber mallet, and with even that little bit of persuasion the seal bends rather than compressing into the groove. So the seal from the kit is chewed up, and the old seal is chewed up, and I'm not happy about the thought of paying another $100+ for another rebuild kit, for the one seal... :ohdamn:

Now, I know there are three size seals, and I've been using the correct size...one other seal looks really close but is just a hair too wide to fit into the groove, and the other is way too small.

Anyone know where I can order just the seal, and why its not tapping in? The picture of the turbine wheel illustrates my problem.

I don't know anywhere to buy individual Holset parts; try getting a kit from TraderGreg if all you need is the seals as you already have the OEM thrust hardware and journal bearings.

This time keep the hammer far, far away. If it's not going together, don't force it or shit like this will happen. :D

Gpops shop will sell me just the seal, for $10 + $10 shipping... $20, for one oem seal...or $35 for a generic kit... I'll take the extra spare parts, LOL.
So yea, if you need specific OEM Holset rebuild parts but not the entire kit, Gpops shop can get them for you. Flat rate $10 shipping means its not going to be cheap though.
