well i'm looking at getting rid of the new PTE6776 DBB and getting a holset, well i found a deal on an hx-40 (7 blade billet wheel) in a 55 a/r BEP housing and i had a few questions about it tht i couldn't solve in reading the holset threads for a few hours tonight

First, is the compressor cover and backing plate larger in diameter on the 40 than the 35? I asj becaus ei know i can do an hx-35 on a 2g and keep the stock fans but i'm not sure about the hx-40

secoond, can anyone tell me anything about the billet wheel 7 blade and how it performs compared to the regular hx-40 or 35? (also wondering in general how much laggier an hx-40 will be compoared to the hx-35?)

I think that's about it though, but i am concerned with an hx-40 breathing through a small'ish .55 a/r housing, but wondering if this billet wheel might make up some restriction with better flow at the same given pressure

thanks in advance

The compressor cover, backing plate / bearing housing are all the same dimension. If you had a on HX35 then went to aHX 40 the compressor cover, backing plate/bearing housing will move torwards the turbine housing 3/16".

Thank you, to the best of my knowledge the broadest area of the compressor cover (spanning from the outlet area) is 8 inches correct? I just need to measure my tso4 housing now and see where i'm going to be in comparison

Thanks again

My advise is run the .55 a/r and see how you enjoy it. Ask Badman how much of a "restriction" that housing is. If you want to get more lag stay with the stock 18^cm housing.

For the housing i read through all 7 of the holset threads and it seems like people running the .55 housing are having to run extremely high boost compared to those who have the regular T3 housing in order to get the same (or near same anyway) power results. I would like to see some spool times and such about the hx-40, I already know i'd like the hx/HY 35 turbos, but if the 40 is much laggier than say a garrett 60 trim or 57 trim i'm not too sure i'd really be interested in it.

The PTE6776 i have now will make 20psi or so by 5k and then it rockets up to what ever boost i have it set at, but i'm looking for something to come fully on in the 25psi + range by no later than 4200 RPM and so far everything i see on the HX-35 tells me that i'd be set perfect with one of them. But the 40 kinda worries me because it has the same major diameter on the compressor wheel as my 6776 (84mm) and is 7mm smaller with an inducer of 60mm. These numbers have been making me think that it's going to perform similar to the 6776 as far as spool times (and that's NOT What i want), but i've yet to see much exact numbers on spool times with this turbo, but i think most running it aren't looking for the fastest spool either (that's what the 35 is for it seems LOL)

When are HX40's (the super in particular) seeing 25psi by on say a 3rd gear pull from 3500 RPM??? I know that's asking a lot but i'm sure some one knows :)

I dont know what your budget is and what you are looking to spend, but the hx35 with the stock 12cm^ twin scroll housing on my car spools really nice and builds good power. Im sure at your elevation it would spool stupid fast as Im at around 7250 feet. Just another option for a holset setup

My budget is selling my 1000+ dollar ball bearing 67mm turbo :D I'm plannign to either trade it for something in the range of what i want or selling it and buying what i want, which was my plan when i picked it up: i thought "if i don't like it i'll just sell it and buy an hx-35" and now it's time to do just that LOL

I'm wondering about spool time on the 40 as well. I'm buying either a 35 or 40 next week (if I can find one...these things seem to sell quick) and I've been trying to decide which one would be better for my 2.0 motor.

not that this means a lot as individual setup changes things majorly and i have no clue on some of the setups, but here's the reason i've decided to go hx-35 and not 40

1.) hx35 can make 35psi by 3500 and full 30psi on some cases by 4000 (i want that type of spool)

2.( the hx40 has been reported to me in PM as coming on to 30'ish plus range by about 5k or so (my last turbo was at 30 by 4200 and that extra 800-1000RPM range is what i'm missing on the DD streets)

that's about it, if i wanted to see full boost that much later to take advantage of the higher power i'd stick with the PTE6776, it sees full boost by 5500 RPM at the latest, I am making 20-25 right before 5k, 10psi at 3200-3300 RPM (just too close to the hx40 for me not to keep the one capable of 800+hp and build to suit it..

My car is built and the package is matched around a good 500 horse capable turbo that spools in the low 4k Range and makes broad power range

Hope tyhat helps you ion your decision too, i was battling this for weeks/ months in my "wanting a holset" state of mind

(please excuse my typos, my back si spamsimng andmy hands are jumping i just can't get everything correct on even the third/4th ftry - i'm sorry, i aitn happyu about it either)

Maybe this is a typo as well but 35 psi by 3500, and a lower 30 psi by 500 rpm's later? Lol.

P.S. I plan on going with the BEP T3 housing. Also wondering if they make the Batmowheel for this or if it's just for the HX40's. Hmmm....

yea, i mmeant 25 by 3000RPM and 30 by 4k (some cary due to housing)

my back is going nuts and the nerve damage makes me unable to hit correct keys when a spasim comes on, it's weitfd, but when it happnes i cna try and fix it ficve times and error every time,it's a nerve damage glitch to parts of my body, sometimes i get blasts of eletric that make my whole body jump

Figured you might have meant 25 psi but just checking. Sorry to hear about the spasim thingy. Good luck with that.
