Well I'm having some issues with my car lately. I think my alternator is on its way out. It seems to have no voltage regulation. At idle it is 14.1 then 11.2 then 14.5 ect. On a pull I sit around 13.2 ish and its steady. So I have a couple of question.

What are you guys logging for voltage at idle and on a pull? I never had a reason to log it so I don't know.

Could a drop in voltage Cause a 20-30 hp loss? Basically my Hp estimates are all consistently less (as well as the feeling of the car) they are normally within, 5 hp with the smoothing at 16.

I really think that the voltage drop is affecting the timing. I.e. it still says 15* but it's really less is that sound logic

voltage will affect everything after it drops below 12v. brushes in the alternator are the likely problem since it is intermittent, just cleaning them out will sometimes give you more life.

If your getting good voltage during the pull then no. Most likely another problem.

Irregular voltage on idle could mean a problem with the alternator though. Unless it happens when you goto roll the window down or something that requires power. Not having enough juice from it can definitely cause the car to run poorly or erratically. Wouldn't hurt to have it tested by a mechanic.

I can confirm low voltage will cause poor performance. My cbr would lose 8 to 9 tenths from running with a recently drained battery.
