edmonton,
My engine was rebuild about 3 weeks ago. its winter here so -15 to -30 celcius. They put 5w30 in after rebuilding it. then I changed the oil at 100miles to 5w30 again.

should I stick with 5w30 throughout the winter/breakin period and then goto 10w30 in the summer?

Do I have to use synthedic and ifnot what would be a recommended non synhtedic oil for a rebuild engine.

Since you're where there's really a winter, 5W-30 is a good idea. Going to the 10W-30 when it warms up will be fine. It's not crucial -they're both 30-weight oil- so don't panic about it. The difference between the 5 and the 10 is the amount of low-temperature magic goo they put in it to help with cold weather performance.
