How to tell what spline tranny I have

How can I tell what spline tranny my car has. I dont have it at the moment sent it to be fixed but I need to know what it is. Is there a way to find out witu no trans in the car?

you can check the number of grooves your clutch has where the input shaft slides in. thats all your counting is the splines themselves.

He is talking about the output shaft on the transmission. All 4g63 transmissions 90-99 use the same spline count on the input shaft. The output shaft will be 22 or 23 spline. IT should have a 23 spline shaft being that it is a 91+ car, but you never know if a 90 trans has been swapped in there. The only way to figure out is to count the splines on the shaft or count them in the transfer case.

ok, so count the splines in the Tcase then......

Tip - Use a white-paint marker or something to help you count. It's easy to lose count when counting tiny teeth in a circle.

So true. I had Jack build me a tranny and since my car was a 93, I assumed it was 23. Wrong, someone had changed it out to a 22 and I had to pay labor twice because the work the shop done taking it down to that point. Then went throw the hassel trying to find a good 23 spline. So definitely make sure what you have if you plain on changing the tranny.

I missed the second half of the that post wow. You can also take a look at ## shifter base. In order to us a 90 Trans in a 91+ car all components need to changed. IE Shifter, Shifter base, Cables, and cable bracket on the trans.

The only definitive way is to check the output shaft or the tcase input. 90 tranny can easily have a 23 spline shaft installed. A 90 shifter base in the car is a pretty good indicator but not 100% definitive. Can't the shop tell you what it is? If you still have the tcase in your possession that's the best way, would take just a minute.
