How to tell what spline my tranny is without removing it

How do I tell what spline my tranny is withput removong? Its a 92 tsi originally a 7 bolt.

you at least have to remove the tcase if thats what you're talking about. If it's original it's a 23.

I have a 1g, but a 1ga, 91 tsi. If you have the stock transmission still in there then it should be a 23 spline transmission

The way I found out is I went under my car, looked at the transfer case.

I saw that the front of it had a dark iron part. On top of that I tested it with a magnet to see if it was iron. If it is not magnetic then it is alluminum, and its a 22 spline.

A: You can figure this out without pulling your transmission. If the whole case is aluminum, it is 22 spline, if the front half is cast iron and the other aluminum it is 23 spline. If a magnet is attracted to the case that is case iron, if it isn't it is aluminum. 2G's are all 23.

This is no longer true. Recall tcases on a 90 are cast front are 22 spline. I have one.
